UN negotiations in Bonn are set to end in a stalemate today as delegates have become bogged down in technical arguments about the Paris climate pact. Poorer nations say they are fed up with foot-dragging by richer countries on finance and carbon-cutting commitments. Some countries, led by China are now seeking to renegotiate key aspects of the Paris agreement. A proposal for bringing international environmental law under one legally binding treaty at the United Nations will be up for a preliminary vote later this week at the U.N. General Assembly. I have stated before, I have followed these negotiations for over 15 years and in that time it has become very obvious that the only interest the developing nations have in climate changed is to receive huge sums of money for free. I guess they do have a secondary goal that the developed nations cripple their economies with scarce and expensive energy so the developing nations can better compete. This stalemate will never be resolved. The developed nations are struggling economically and not about to hand over the desired cash. How that the big sugar daddy, the United States, isn’t in the picture it is even worse. Rather than admit this will never be resolved I guess they will continue to haggle.
