More than 1,200 publications show the Medieval Warm Period (MWP) was global – an embarrassment to global warming alarmists who claimed it was regional.
Global-warming-alarmist scientists like claiming that the well-documented Medieval Warm Period (MWP) was mostly a regional, North Atlantic phenomenon, and was not global, and so we should just move along and stop questioning man-made global warming.
For example, the online Britannica entry on the Medieval Warm Period written by John P. Rafferty writes that it occurred “predominantly in the Northern Hemisphere from Greenland eastward through Europe and parts of Asia.”
Britannica does state that the claim of a global extent is highly controversial, though it really isn’t as we are about to see.

Indeed the claim that it was global is now backed up by a huge body of scientific studies meticulously compiled by Dr. Sebastian Lüning of Die kalte Sonne and presented at Google Maps here.
The outstanding site presents more than 1,200 publications that evidence that the MWP was global.

So far, the site is proving to be a valuable resource as it has been accessed over 125,000 times. Not bad for a project that was financed entirely on a shoestring by small, private donations.
Natural forces at work
When asked about the reaction to this resource, Dr. Lüning replied:
We run this study fully open-minded and without any result that we try to prove. We screen through all available data and then simply let the data talk.
We begin to see a connection of the Medieval Climate Anomaly to the long-term changes of the ocean cycles, such as AMO and NAO.
The same patterns that are known from the last 100 years (multidecadal) seem to operate on a multi-centennial time frame.
Most ocean cycles were really just discovered in the 1990s and it is only now that we integrate them into the longterm pre-industrial climate changes as well.

Taken as a whole, for the alarmists the 1200+ papers are an extremely inconvenient body of facts and knowledge, so don’t be surprised if efforts are made to make them disappear from the Google platform in the future.

All the recent variation can be accounted for quite precisely by three solar cycles. Proven by Lüdecke and Weiss who analysed the records using Fourier analysis and found three key cycles in the power spectrum that almost completely account for the observed change, and are co-incident with known solar cycles. “All we see is cycles” The other multi decadal stuff is a bit short term…and is it causal, or an effect of the natural solar cycles.
The Sun cycles caused the past and current warming? Sounds scientific. What a “denier” of the Global Warming religion.
The Global Warming liberals should be happy to hear about this. It gives them one less then to worry about and fuss over, thus allowing them to swarm around the next major problem. Unforunately, their mindset is one that leads them to fall in love with their solution even if it does apply to a real situation. Beyond that, if human activity is found convincingly not to be the cause of climate calamity, then the socialists have less leverage to for take over our lives.
The Medieval Warm Period is a serious problem for the warming alarmists. If the earth can warm at that time without rising levels of carbon dioxide, then today’s modest warming can also have a cause other than CO2. The climategate emails said that this warming period needed to minimized. One attempt, obviously not valid, was to try to claim that it was only one local area. Other efforts to minimize have claimed that the Medieval Warm Period was no warmer than our temperatures today.
Extremes of weather, blazing hot summers, disastrous floods, savage winters with record low temperatures, catastrophes, all happened during the Little Ice Age, as recorded during that period. No CO2 causation, obviously.
