Marine scientist Peter Ridd has refused to accept a formal censure and gag order from James Cook University and expanded his Federal Court action to defend academic freedoms and free speech. The university said by expressing concerns about the quality of some reef science, Professor Ridd had not acted in a “collegiate” manner. Ridd said he was determined to speak freely about his treatment. “This is as much a case about free speech as it is about the quality of science,” he said. —Graham Lloyd, The Australian, 1 February 2018
James Cook University is threatening scientific integrity by seeking to censor one of its academic staff members, Professor Peter Ridd, according to John Roskam, the Executive Director of the Institute of Public Affairs. “The university should not be attempting to silence the scientific debate about the impact of climate change. Professor Ridd is a world expert on the Great Barrier Reef – he has the right and responsibility to interrogate the research evidence which determines how more than a billion dollars of taxpayer’s money will be spent,” said Mr. Roskam. —Institute of Public Affairs, 1 February 2018
The state of the Great Barrier Reef (GBR) is often used to show that we are facing an imminent crisis from climate change. I argue in this chapter that there is perhaps no ecosystem on Earth better able to cope with rising temperatures. Irrespective of one’s views about the role of carbon dioxide, I will show that the GBR corals are masters of temperature adaptability, and able to cope with the modest warming that has occurred over the last century – and are also so-far unaffected by ocean acidification. How ironic it is that the practice of tenure at the great medieval universities of Europe originated in the need to protect professors from arrest by the authorities of the time, i.e. the church, the government, the nobility. Now many universities lead the lynch mob.

This article touches on a number of issues. Perhaps the worst is that the very institutions that should have blown the whistle on the climate fraud have become part of the fraud. This includes most of them. It just shows how strong the motivation is to support the liberal agendas. These universities have lowered themselves to the same level of integrity as the most corrupt third world nations.
The other is Nazi attitudes that those who don’t support the liberal agenda should be silenced. If what someone is saying undermines the liberal consensus, then it deserves it.
The alarmists conveniently ignore the fact that the reef has been here for thousands of years. That means it survived past warm periods such as the medieval warm period and the roman warm period. The activists are just trying for another reason to advance their agenda.
Historical warm periods were natural. The Warmists claim current warming is man made and unprecedented, therefore immoral. Whatever….

Professor Ridd has spent a significant part of his life researching the Great Barrier Reef and has first hand knowledge of the multiple species of Coral that make their homes on the Great Barrier Reef. I would suggest reading the opening chapter of, Climate Change: The Facts 2017 with a number of contributors. Professor Ridd authors the 1st chapter, The Extraordinary Resilience Of Great Barrier Reef Corals, And Problems With Policy Science. The book also covers the issue of the take-over of many of our Scientific Academies and Institutions by the Liberal Elites. The book is a series with the same title published in 2010, 2014 and the most recent edition in 2017, by the Institute for Public Affairs in Australia.
