Forget Paris: Trump Calls Climate Accord A Plan To ‘Redistribute Wealth Out Of The US’

President Donald Trump said a U.S. withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement is “in America’s economic interest and won’t matter much to the climate.”

“The United States will withdraw from the Paris climate accord,” Trump said in the Rose Garden Thursday, announcing his pulling out of the Paris agreement, which the Obama administration joined in 2016.

“I was elected to represent the citizens of Pittsburgh, not Paris,” Trump said.

Trump made good on his campaign promise to withdraw from the Paris agreement after months of internal struggle within the White House. Trump said Paris puts the U.S. at an economic disadvantage and is being pushed by economic competitors.

“This agreement is less about the climate and more about other countries gaining a financial advantage over the United States,” Trump, specifically singling out China and India.

China and India joined the Paris agreement in 2016, but neither have plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. China said it would “peak” emissions by 2030 and India has been promised foreign aid to boost green energy production.

“They can do whatever they want for 13 years. Not us,” Trump said of China.

China and India have plans to drastically increase coal production to fuel their growing economies.

Trump also said the U.S. would no longer send money to the Green Climate Fund (GCF), which was created to fund green energy projects in poor countries. The Paris agreement required developed countries fund the GCF.

The Obama administration pledged $3 billion to the GCF, but was only able to give the fund $1 billion in 2016 before the Trump administration took over. Trump’s budget proposal zeroes out GCF funding.

As part of the Paris accord, the U.S. and other developed countries promised to give $100 billion in climate aid to poor countries by 2020.

Democratic lawmakers and environmentalists heavily criticized Trump’s decision to leave the Paris agreement, but the president rebuffed criticisms and argued the deal put the U.S. “at a very, very big economic disadvantage.”

“The agreement doesn’t eliminate coal jobs, it just transfers those jobs out of America,” Trump said, “and ships them to other countries.”

Trump already began the process of dismantling the Obama administration’s climate agenda, including rescinding executive orders and reviewing regulations.

White House aides said the administration would withdraw from the Paris accord using the process laid out in the agreement.

Under this process, the U.S. wouldn’t fully withdraw until November 2019 — more than two years from now.

Trump said during this time he would work with world leaders to renegotiate the Paris agreement.

He would “begin negotiations to re-enter the Paris accord or an entirely new transaction” that’s a fairer deal for Americans, Trump said. “We will see if we can make a deal that’s fair. If we can, that’s great. If we can’t, that’s fine.”

“Under this process, the U.S. wouldn’t fully withdraw until November 2019 — more than two years from now.”

This makes no sense at all. Since the Paris agreement was never ratified, the US was never in it. There is no need to withdraw other than to acknowledge that the agreement wasn’t ratified.

G “the larger issue of scientific fraud and corruption have yet to be addressed ”
    Couldn’t agree more .
He kept his promise and the chances of a new renegotiated agreement are lower than the fraud humans are going to set the earths thermostat.
Tired of Socialist whiners from Germany and France. Who are they going to call when
some dictator takes over their countries again ? The USA saved their ass and now
they get all high brow because the USA won’t play along with the biggest scientific fraud and tax payer heist in history . Screw them . Give flower pot Merkel that extra chair at “the table ” to sit on .
Great call Mr. Trump . The best so far by a mile .

Climate change became a political movement a long time ago. This is why when the science supporting it started to crumble, they resorted to scientific fraud.

To be clear, Trump only nixed this “deal” because it was economically bad for Americans; good as far as that goes… However, the larger issue of scientific fraud and corruption have yet to be addressed.

If Trump would allow Democrats to renegotiate an agreement as stated, he must predicate the offer on the left first proving and showing their scientific work beyond any doubt.

    No more Al Gore absurdities.
No more speculative and ever-changing claims.
    No more falsified data.
No more threats against scientific skepticism and free inquiry.

They must be able to absolutely show that those trillions of demanded taxpayer dollars will SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVE the earth’s environment with verifiable and repeatable results before one more dollar is spent.

    Good luck eco-socialists.

Why do they never mention the fact that the USA exceeded Kyoto’s reduction targets without giving up any Sovereignty to the UN.

Mitt Romney thinks the USA needs to do that to remain a world “leader”. He is simply wrong. The west will also exceed reductions this time around, not by redistributing wealth, but by improving technology and better free market choices.

Read “G”s post here. Reducing CO2 matters not. Why tout reductions? Most of the CO2 reductions cost jobs here and the CO2 is now emitted elsewhere.

You’re correct reducing CO2 doesn’t matter. Energy efficiency is what matters; more work from a unit of energy. President Trump’s decision is beyond great. Look around at whose wringing their hands and shouting doom and gloom–they are the globalist fascists using this lie to transfer wealth, restrict your freedom and destroy capitalism. Thank you Mr. President!

    BRAVO PRESIDENT TRUMP!

    O.P. quote:

“President Donald Trump said a U.S. withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement is “in America’s economic interest and won’t matter much to the climate.”

Exactly! And that is in the very kindest terms!

Better put, the Climate Change Agenda is nothing more than a corrupt life support system for failed World Socialism. Truth to power.

the USA participation in the biggest fraud in history . Congratulations USA and Mr. Trump .
Lets not forget previous administrations voted to not support Kyoto and the Senate passed a unanimous resolution 95 to 0 that effectively killed the globalization robbers
attempt to shake down USA tax payers .
There is hope USA . There is hope .
