Enviros Pour $3 Million Into North Carolina Senate Race

north-carolinaEnvironmentalists at the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) will be pouring $3 million into television ads against North Carolina Republican Senator Richard Burr, according to press statements.

LCV’s television ad notes that Burr has “been in Washington two decades,” and criticizes him for “the hundreds of thousands Burr’s taken from oil and energy companies.” It also says he has voted “against clean-energy jobs for North Carolina.” The environmental group has endorsed Burr’s challenger, Deborah Ross, a former state assemblywoman.

Burr was endorsed in August by the ClearPath Action Fund, a group that supports pro-green energy Republicans. Burr has also been supported by for the Land and Water Conservation Fund which has launched a nearly $500,000 ad campaign for him.

Burr has not attempted to distance himself from Republican nominee Donald Trump, who trails in the state, but has condemned some of Trump’s comments.

Statistician Nate Silver’s website FiveThrityEight estimates that Burr would have a 61.9 percent chance of winning if the election were held today. The RealClearPoltics average of polls currently has Burr winning by 2.8 percentage points. The most recent poll, created by the non-profit Civitas Institute, has Burr winning by 8 percentage points.
