So after all the pontificating about ‘climate change’ and ‘global warming’ in the catastrophic fire that destroyed 700 homes in Spokane, Washington, it all comes down to an arrest that police say is named Aaron Farinacci, whom they charged with arson. [some emphasis, links added]
According to the California Post:
“Authorities on Monday arrested a 37-year-old man they suspect of starting one of the devastating wildfires tearing through eastern Washington state as many residents were left wondering if their homes had survived.
“The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office said 37-year-old Aaron F. Farinacci was arrested and booked on suspicion of arson in connection with the Old Trails Fire. He is being held on $1 million bond. It wasn’t immediately clear if he had an attorney who could speak on his behalf.
“The fire that sparked Saturday is one of several burning around Spokane, the state’s second-largest city. They are among the most destructive blazes in state history, together destroying at least 700 structures and forcing roughly 67,000 people to evacuate.”
This video of the local sheriff giving a briefing describes how an alert citizen called authorities when a man behaving suspiciously kept bending down at the flammable railroad tracks and, upon being searched by lawmen, was found to be carrying a butane lighter and some waterproof matches.
He’d even been questioned earlier about another fire.
Oh, and the 37-year-old Arizona man had also gone to jail at the age of 21, for a short stretch anyway, for killing his father after an argument about doing the dishes, reports say.
According to the Seattle Times:
“The investigator reviewed Washington State Patrol’s investigation of the Aug. 11, 2025, fire, which included photographs of a man seen in the area wearing a green T-shirt bearing the words, ‘Who needs luck I have charm,’ and of a Bic lighter he was presumably carrying at the time.
“The investigator learned the same man was also contacted by Spokane police one month earlier regarding a separate report of potential arson, according to the affidavit.
“Officials did not charge him in either incident.
“The man moved to Spokane sometime after he was released in 2020 from federal prison in Arizona, 10 years after he fatally shot his father inside their Mesa home during an argument about doing the dishes.
“The son, then 21, was charged with first-degree murder, and pleaded guilty to manslaughter two years later. He was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment, with credit for time already served in jail, according to Maricopa County Superior Court records.”
The dad’s death coincided with this one:
…which suggests a miserable character who belonged in jail and should have been left there [rather than released] with such a light sentence. Now 700 homes are gone, affecting tens of thousands of innocent residents.
The sheriff’s account suggests the fire-starting was pretty deliberate, especially since his name had come up in earlier fires.
So much for global warming: A lousy criminal justice system, an excess of ‘rights’ for convicts, and a heaping helping of rage and malice were behind this one. The hot, dry conditions were just hot, dry conditions, far from the cause of the conflagration.
This, by the way, isn’t the only arsonist behind a big fire in an ‘urban interface.’
A similar misfit has been charged with igniting the Lachman fire, which later became the Palisades fire in 2024-2025. A jury couldn’t reach a unanimous verdict on whether to convict him, so now he may be tried all over again.
Just don’t call this terrible new social phenomenon, comparable to that of trans mass shooters, anybody’s ‘global warming.’
