Pope Francis Calls for ‘Prompt and Effective’ Response to Climate Change

Even as nations around the world are quietly backing away from the Paris Climate Accord, Pope Francis has called for a prompt and effective response to the “threat posed by climate change” in a message to a Rome summit on water and climate.

The international summit “Water and Climate: Meeting of the Great Rivers of the World,” sponsored by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and other partners, is taking place in Rome’s Capitol building (the “Campidoglio”) from Oct. 23-25.

In the Pope’s written message to the meeting, conveyed by the Vatican’s Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the pontiff expressed his concern for water conservation around the world, as well as his fervent desire that “the threat posed by climate change to our brothers and sisters in the most vulnerable countries will find prompt and effective responses.”

In another speech at the summit Monday, Mr. Karmenu Vella, European Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, echoed the Pope’s concerns regarding climate change, tying it into the situation of the world’s rivers.

“We are here today because our climate is under threat,” Mr. Vella said. “Seasonal river flows are changing, and floods and droughts are more severe, more frequent than ever before.”

“Climate change is raising the temperature of rivers and lakes, with major impacts on ecosystems and water quality. These problems are just as real in Europe as they are elsewhere around the globe,” he asserted.

The European Commissioner insisted that the key to addressing the problem of climate change and avoiding a “point of no return” is to be found in “political will.”

“The Paris Agreement reminds us of the need to prepare and adapt, and to build up our climate resilience,” he said.

In a major report last week, the prestigious UK journal, The Lancet, suggested that pollution of air and water, rather than carbon-induced global warming, is the real crisis facing the world, one being overlooked by environmental activists.

The Lancet revealed that pollution-related diseases were responsible for an estimated 9 million premature deaths in 2015, or some 15 times more than from all wars and other forms of violence combined.

Pollution is not only the largest environmental cause of disease and premature death in the world today, the study found, but diseases caused by pollution were responsible for roughly 16 percent of all deaths worldwide—“three times more deaths than from AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria combined and 15 times more than from all wars and other forms of violence.”

Curiously, neither the European Commissioner nor the Pope made any mention to the extraordinary number of deaths caused by water and air pollution, preferring instead to focus on the nebulous and ideologically charged notion of anthropogenic climate change.

While to date there has not been a single documented case of a person being killed by carbon dioxide related “global warming,” real pollution of air, water and land is killing an average of 25,000 people every day across the globe.

Late last week, a report out of Canada suggested that many nations around the world have quietly begun ignoring or abandoning the energy goals outlined by the Paris Climate Accord.

According to Lawrence Solomon of Energy Probe, a Toronto-based environmental organization, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is one of the only signers of the Paris agreement who is actually abiding by the exacting demands of the accord.

Solomon proposed that while feigning interest in global warming is politically expedient, most people are unconvinced that it poses a real problem—unlike the real pollution that is killing millions.

In an essay in Friday’s Financial Post, Solomon said that “most signatories are ignoring, if not altogether abandoning Paris commitments, undoubtedly because voters in large part put no stock in scary global warming scenarios.”

“Trudeau now stands almost alone in sincere support of Paris,” Solomon wrote. “The populist backlash — a revulsion at top-down governments laden with jet-setting politicians landing in posh places to preach restraint to the masses — has swept America with Trump’s election, Great Britain with Brexit, much of Europe, and Australia.”

“In the process, global warming enthusiasts are being swept out,” he said.

The Pope calls for a “prompt and effective response ” to climate change . First, his boss is still in charge of climate change and it is shocking he could possibly think otherwise . Second the church
should practice what it preaches . The pedophiles and perverts who
used the trust of their religion positions were never met with a “prompt and effective ‘ response by Church leaders . More often than not they were shuffled off to some other unsuspecting franchise .
It is absolutely incredible that a person with the resources of the Pope actually is promoting the notion that a trace gas beneficial to life , that has historically been of much higher concentrations naturally is some how taken charge of the earth’s temperature .
Yes climate changes obviously , yes everything humans do has some impact no matter how insignificant but the climate models that were used to whip up this UN generated crisis of convenience
have been proven to be grossly inaccurate . They aren’t worth the paper they were printed on .
Where was the Catholic Church when global cooling was the big scare of the early 1970’ s ? All so science based apparently .
The Pope needs to use his access to his boss and ask for a climate model that can accurately predict the overwhelming influence of the
natural variables that continue to drive the direction of climate .
Would the Pope prefer to feed and possibly house people with a $trillion dollars or have it carved up among climate conmen , “renewable ” welfare corporations , and government dictators to redirect funds to their off shore Swiss bank accounts .
I think we have the answer already don’t we .
Hanging around with Hollywood creeps is never a good idea .

Canadian liberals have an inferiority complex that drives them to perform publicity stunts.
Years ago 14 million tires went up in flames a mile from my house. (arson by a juvenile). Ontario called in water bombers. After a week the fire was out and the Liberals boasted that this was the first tire fire to be extinguished, ever. The surviving tires were trucked to a landfill site at taxpayers expense in the million$. Turns out that no one ever tried to extinguish a tire fire. D’oh!
Hope is lost for any new pipelines that will allow Alberta and Saskatchewan to export petroleum. Canada depends heavily on energy taxes and royalties. No worries, Ottawa can afford to pay the interest on the loans needed to run the place into the ground.
Kathleen Wynne’s Liberals were in a race to shut down our coal-fired generators before their friends beat them to it. It will be a pyrrhic victory for them and a lasting burden for Ontario taxpayers. Can we expect 2 debt retirement payments on our electricity bill?

Why doesn’t the Pope help real humans from suffering? Let’s pick an easy failed continent like say, Africa that is ruled by way too many kleptocrats…stealing from the people and dare I say, your Eminence, from you and your Church.

What’s the difference? Behavior modification through mind control. That used to be the responsibility of churches in society. Governments rewarded them with a tax exemption.
As for the Pope’s interest in the Warmist con?
If you can’t beat them, join them.

    The DOPE
telling the rest of the world
    what to do and
    how to think ?

When will the Roman church admit
not only of its millienia long criminality
    but the eternal arrogance ?

    Who is this PIG
    to tell anyone anything ?

    Whence comes his authority ?

When will the Roman church get involved in charity ?

The Roman church collects money ( the token of Mammon )
but dispenses very little of it and
    hoards plenty of it .

    Yet, the DOPE
feels he has the authority to tell everyone how they must think. If the DOPE were a USA citizen he would obviously be
    a stupid ass worthless democrat

About the only thing positive that the current jizzlam invasion of Europe might accomplish is that it might abolish the papacy including the destruction of the Vatican.

I realize the Pope is extremely busy so I will pose the following questions to the new thing people tend to worship … The Cloud . Fitting actually .
Concern about the fear of the earth having a fever stemmed from
    who exactly ?
    A. An Inconvenient Movie debunked by British Courts for being riddled with errors .
    B. A non- reproduced hockey stick looking graph .
    C. Climate models that the UN relied on to make predictions of doom that have now been proven to be inaccurate in one direction by hundreds of percent thus grossly overstating warming consistently .
    4. All of the above .
Now if the Pope knows what the scientific method is and is there really any doubt he didn’t learned about it by Grade 6 science ?
Then the findings of any one of the gross inaccuracy in the above rationalizations underpinning the overblown global warming fear industry are contrary to basic science principles and should not be relied on to support a massive fraud .
Of course we are in in a long warming cycle and humans along with other creatures all contribute in our own small way but robbing taxpayers and indebting countries to solve a non-issue is a travesty . Promoters of this elaborate scare scheme have intentionally or unintentionally lie to the public and are indirectly responsible for thousands of unnecessary fuel poverty deaths each year .
Time to do a refresh of the scientific method , get science out of politics , religion and justification to shake down tax payers .

With the ranks of world Catholicism waning, the church’s finances in question, and on the heals of an institutional pedophilia scandal, the Pope chooses to make his stand on Climate Change… Meanwhile the world’s poor and oppressed could care less about a .000005 degree shift in a trace gas or a convoluted new modeling system that even “experts” cannot agree upon.

The Pope has learned from the best, liberal politicians; as your failures are exposed, offer a new shiny object to distract attention and rely on the media to do the rest for you.

Realistically the Pope can’t expect today’s youth to hang out in musty old mausoleums. What to do? He needs to go to them.
Catch the wave, ride it, look cool. Channel Father Guido Sarducci. The Pontiff is an ACTIVIST! New spin for the old ceremony.

SNL classic! “To be made a saint in-a the catholic church, you have to have-a four miracles. That’s-a the rules, you know. It’s-a always been that-a. Four miracles, and-a to prove it. Well, this-a Mother Seton-now they could only prove-a three miracles. But the Pope-he just waved the fourth one. He just waved it! And do you know why? It’s-a because she was American. It’s all-a politics. We got-a some Italian-a people, they got-a forty, fifty, sixty miracles to their name. They can’t-a get in just cause they say there’s already too many Italian saints, and this woman comes along with-a three lousy miracles. I understand that-a two of them was-a card tricks.”
