Documentary filmmaker and left-wing activist Michael Moore is the latest entertainment figure to use the Chinese coronavirus pandemic to hold forth on the environment, claiming that the outbreak is Mother Nature’s way of saying that she doesn’t like the way we have treated the planet.
Michael Moore claimed in a recent interview to promote the new environmental documentary Planet of the Humans that the global pandemic is nature’s “warning” that “our behavior is not appreciated.”
He also claimed that the species that have given us viruses are often the ones we mistreat.
“We are in dangerous, dangerous shape here, and this pandemic should act as a warning from Mother Nature that … our behavior is not appreciated,” the Oscar-winning documentarian told USA Today.
“And the fact that we have treated the species on this planet – species that often times give us these viruses. It’s a failure of us – all of us who call ourselves environmentalists.”
The Roger & Me and Fahrenheit 9/11 director said that the environmental movement is in serious need of a reboot.
“The planet is in worse shape, and we have to do something different. We have to get off the road we’ve been on,” Moore said. “We need a new environmental movement, we need young people to essentially take over. It’s their future.”
Moore also told USA Today that corporations and parts of Wall Street have been trying to “take over the green energy movement because they see profit in it.”
“They try to buy off certain people and organizations within the movement,” he said.
Planet of the Humans presents a critical view of the environmental movement, arguing that solar energy and electric cars aren’t helping the Earth.
The documentary has provoked condemnation from some environmentalists, who are demanding that it be taken down from YouTube due to alleged inaccuracies.
As of Monday afternoon, the documentary was still on YouTube and has been viewed more than 3 million times.

This movie making genius is an idiot in other ways. Disease pandemics happen. This is what nature does and what it has always done for thousands of years. Nature is not a sentient being that punishes creatures it doesn’t like. The word nature is a reference to the realm of thins on earth that happen naturally. Also, the planet is not a sentient being or something that we can treat badly or well. It is just a stupid planet but a planet so big it doesn’t even know we exist. Yet eco wacko goofballs are out to “save mother nature” and to save “the planet” and blaming our bad fortunes on our treatment of realities constructed in terms of our own language that don’t exist outside of that construction. The real bad fortune we have to deal with is that not all of us are able to think rationally, and yet able to exert a great deal of social influence.

good points indeed, but saying the planet “does not even know we exist” misses the point: we are made of it, its minerals, its processes, it evolved us. So we discovered and used its fossil remains, oil, gas, etc, and always will use and relate to its resources. To say it is “a stupid planet”is a projection. “Nature” knows, which is why it works, it has imprints, same as we have genetic codes. The planet is hardly “dead” if it produces and sustains life. Nor is the sun. We need to extend our vision beyond mechanistic scientism. That is why we call it “Mother Nature”. AGW itself is an inflation, hubris: Earth controls us, not the other way round.
“Nature knows”Mother Nature” These are examples of personification. Michael Moore talks down to his recruits using the same props. It’s a crutch that exploits our mind’s eye. God made man in his own image? That’s the biggest lie ever told.
He may be right about the environmental movement needing a shake up. The hypocrisy of the fuel wasting globe trotting elites holding annual COP conventions, that’s gotta end, now. Anyone who tries to link the Wuhan virus to AGW has to condemn that behaviour, too.
So the airhead socialists tell us that Mother Nature is mad at us, and is dispersing a deadly virus to kill people, yet Mother Nature, according to the alarmists, cannot control the climate.
What a ridiculous pseudo-scientific belief.
The personification of nature reached its philosophical peak with Lovelock’s Gaia hypothesis. Such a lovely planet that created us and provides endless ways to kill us — and yet we’re “killing” it.
