Arnold Schwarzenegger accused Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt Saturday of being the handmaiden of the oil and coal industries and the worst chief the agency has had in its 47-year history.
“I pay no attention to what he says. He cannot be taken seriously,” the Hollywood actor–turned-environmentalist said Saturday at an annual climate conference in his native country of Austria. “He’s the worst environmental secretary that we have ever had.”
Schwarzenegger’s comments should not come as a surprise.
He took a similar shot at Pruitt prior to the conference, writing in a May 16 tweet: “I have a simple remedy when people like Pruitt ignore or hide pollution: if you don’t have a problem with Americans drinking contaminated drinking water, drink it yourself until you tap out or resign.”
Schwarzenegger has been a strong environmentalist since before leaving California’s governor’s mansion in 2011, but he has ratcheted up his advocacy to a fevered pitch ever since. He announced in March plans to sue oil companies for first-degree murder for supposedly knowingly killing people all over the world.
“This is no different from the smoking issue,” Schwarzenegger said in a March 12 interview with Politico. “The tobacco industry knew for years and years and years and decades that smoking would kill people, would harm people and create cancer, and were hiding that fact from the people and denied it.
