NOAA massively tampers with US temperature data, to turn a century of cooling into warming.
The two leading excuses for tampering with US temperature data are the time of observation bias and changing station composition.
The time of observation bias adjustment is based on the idea that most stations during the 1930s reset their min/max thermometers during the afternoon, causing some double counting of hot maximum temperatures.
NOAA adjusts for this by cooling the past and warming the present.
It is simple enough to test their theory out, by splitting the stations into two groups – 1930s morning stations, and 1930s afternoon stations. If the TOBS theory is valid, the morning stations (blue line below) would be warming faster than afternoon stations (red line below.)
But as you can see, the slope of both lines is nearly identical – both are cooling at about the same rate. The morning stations are warmer because they are located at lower latitudes where people are more likely to work outside earlier in the day.
The average latitude of the morning stations is 38.5°N and the average latitude of the afternoon stations is 39.7°N.
The changing station composition adjustments are based on the fact the set of USHCN stations in use varies from year to year.
Again, it is simple enough to test this theory out, by using only the 896 stations which were active in both 1918 and 2018.
The black line below is the set of all stations and the brown line is the set of stable stations. The stable stations are not cooling quite as fast as the set of all stations, but the difference is minimal.
Tamino tried to sucker his readers over this concept, but the bottom line is that there is no valid excuse to tamper with temperature data.

NOAA’s data tampering is the excuse for turning cooling into warming.
Which then becomes the excuse for destroying civilization.
Achieving these limits will require “rapid, far-reaching, and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society,”

I have shut down people in on line debates about data tampering with just two facts. One, the data was considered good for decades. Only when it became obvious that it didn’t support the climate change movement was there a need to alter it. Second, the data is almost exclusively changed to help the climate change cause. If it was being changed for legitimate reasons, some of the changes would undermine this cause. Now there is a third reason to know this is fraud. The extra cold weather in the fall of 2017 has been erased form the records. This time has had the data changed to be like a normal year. There is no doubt that there is data fraud and even some of the climate alarmists acknowledge it.

A similar situation is happenings at the moment in the Netherlands where the Government run KNMI (similar to NOAA or NASA’s GISS) has altered temp records going back a century. The results were that many heat waves of the past have been removed from the records. Google Marcel Crok, the Dutch skeptic who co-wrote a paper about it and is waiting for an answer fro KNMI. The institute is the AllMighty when it comes to weather and climate and so the press ignored the Crok paper completely.
The fraud is coordinated, no doubt. Purge the meteorological records of inconvenient truths.
I worked 35 years as a stationary engineer. Different workers did their rounds at different times.
Handing in a blank report required an excuse. Their was no rigidity in the timing.
Looking back on historical meteorological data collection, I expect that it may have been the same. However, during extreme heat and cold, the maximums and minimums would have been curiosities that would have been captured accurately, just as they are today.

In the 70s and beyond the Fire Dept did the daily readings and logged them. We had a NOAA weather station behind the main fire station. The data was never recorded at the same time every day. Some days it wasn’t even recorded. Sometimes we were on a fire call or car crashes or medical calls. Lots of the data was entered just days before the reporting period ended because the Administration said that blanks were unacceptable. Accurate data from NOAA collections-no not accurate at all. Can you say made up?
