People preparing to watch the ball drop on 2017 in New York City later this month should expect one of the coldest New Year’s Eve bashes in recorded history.
Midnight temperatures at Times Square in the Big Apple should tumble into the teens with wind chills dropping below zero. It will easily become the top five coldest New Year’s Eve parties in history.
Snowstorms are also expected to slam the Northeast shortly after the curtain falls on 2017. Two storms may attempt to merge and deliver a hammer blow of snow to parts of New York and New England.

“How quickly the storms from the Midwest and the South converge and strengthen will determine the extent and intensity of the snow from the mid-Atlantic to New England,” according to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Kristina Pydynowski.
The low temperatures on New Year’s Day follow up the snowy weather during Christmas, which left millions of Americans shivering across the lower 48 states.
Tuesday morning saw low temperatures across the continental U.S., according to Weather.us meteorologist Ryan Maue. Millions of Americans already experienced a white Christmas Day, including parts of Pennsylvania, where they got a record 53 inches of snow over a two-day period.
