A group of environmentalists’ dance for snow event protesting Colorado’s relatively dry winter backfired in epic fashion after a snowstorm covered the state in several inches of snow.
Activist group 350.org orchestrated an event earlier this month designed to promote the idea that man-made global warming is partly to blame for Colorado’s dry winter.
But weather reports asked citizens to brace for several brutal snowstorms shortly before the group’s event was to take place.
“We’re bringing together a statewide action to dance for the climate and make Colorado snow again!” the group’s event page reads. “The main goal? Encourage local elected officials, candidates and organizations to sign onto the Colorado People’s Climate Justice Platform.”
Massive snowstorms have stymied climate rallies in the past. Activists who organized a climate march in Colorado last year were forced to postpone their events after a snowstorm dumped more than a foot of snow on parts of the state.
Organizers wrestled with blustery snow conditions for the so-called People’s Climate March in April of last year, while 350.org, Sierra Club, and NextGen Climate, and others, gathering at a similar march in Washington, D.C. enjoyed balmier conditions.
Members of 350.org were forced to postpone the event.
“Sometimes Mother Nature throws you a curveball!” 350 Colorado Springs wrote in a social media post at the time. “Dangerous conditions and wet heavy snow in the forecast for tomorrow. Stay safe and warm and join us Sunday afternoon same time and place!!”
The group’s dance for snow event looks to enjoy the same fate. Snow fell and hasn’t stopped falling ever since 350.org announced the event. In the mountains, in places like Wolf Creek, 38 inches of snow fell over the last several days, adding to Colorado’s growing snowpack.

We have had a dry winter here in Colorado, both along the Front Range where I live as well as the mountains. Had the folks at 350.org bothered to read Joe Bastardi’s long-range forecast they would have seen he predicted that due to La Nina which caused the Jet Stream to stay north of us, steering the storms to the north (take a look at the record snows Billings, MT, have been getting. But the storm tracks have changed in the last few weeks with the mountains picking up 4+” (some well over a foot) storms on an almost daily basis. And we’ve finally been getting snow along the Front Range with February getting more snow than average for the month. We will now be entering our snowiest month, March, with the likelihood we’ll pick up more.
Too bad greens it snowed and your snow dance was postponed maybe you Eco-Wackos should hold a Snow Dance in July when its to hot and its summer and summers are always very warming
