Forget 2 degrees of warming, Hawking says “460″!
Oh, look, there goes another attention-seeking celebrity scientist — flaming out –watch the arc:
In the second episode of his new series “Stephen Hawking’s Favorite Places,” the British physicist warns Earth could soon become as hot as Venus if action to halt climate change is not taken immediately.
Now temperatures on Venus reach 250°C with powerful 300mph winds. Hawking says a greenhouse effect burned the planet’s oceans and lands, and that something similar could happen right here on Earth if climate change continues unabated.
“Next time you meet a climate-change denier, tell them to take a trip to Venus; I will pay the fare,” says the physicist in his show.
Sadly, Hawking is an atmosphere-denier. Venus’s atmosphere is ninety times denser than the Earth’s.
The lapse rate* just goes on and on through 60 kilometers of “air” and Venus ends up with a 467-degree surface, just like Earth would if it had an atmosphere this thick.
When Hawking yells “Venus”, I yell back “Mars”. Both have atmospheres of 95% CO2, but one is 467 degrees and the other is minus 40.
Hawking may say, “but the Martian atmosphere is thin”. I would say “Exactly“! It’s not the percentage of CO2 that matters most, it’s the thickness of the atmosphere.
On Earth, to get the same atmospheric pressure you need to get down about a kilometer below sea-level or 50 kilometers down a mine shaft, which is 40 kilometers deeper than anyone has ever dug.
Hawking can save himself the money for my fare to Venus, and get himself a ticket to Mars. He wants to go there anyway, so I’m doing him a favor.
Stephen Hawking is supposed to know some physics.
“Venus is like Earth in so many ways,” he explained. “A sort of kissing cousin.”

With an atmosphere 90 times denser than Earth, Venus is ‘like’ the Earth in the same sense that Bruichladdich Whiskey is ‘like’ water. They’re both clear liquids, but one will sterilize your bench top.
There is something truly tragic about being a physicist that’s ten years behind DeSmog.

This arrogant posturing of the media-elected scientific elite has gotten out of hand. These people, like Neil deGrasse Tyson, et al, LOVE being fawned on my the left media while tipping cocktails and congratulating themselves on both scientific and political superiority. Tyson even has his own left-wing-celebrity-meets-like-minded-scientist ass kissing show on some cable channel.
I’ve tipped a few cocktails with similar, but lesser known science scientists who assume I’m in their “club”. In private company the arrogance, vile language, and dismissal of anyone who would disagree as less-than-human is simply staggering. That’s why I nearly laughed my a$$ off when these same people respond in high dudgeon as Trump referred places like Somalia and Yemen as s#!+holes.
Actually going to Venus is not all that far fetched. There those who say people could live there in large air ship type constructs. The temperature is the same as earth at the same pressure. Which is about 50km from the surface.

I suggest to take a look at the above picture comparing temperature and pressure through the atmospheres of Venus and Earth. We see that for pressure between 10 and 1000 bar the temperatures are pretty much the same (the difference can probably be explained from the fact that Venus is closer to the Sun), indicating that the composition of the atmosphere has little influence at the same pressure, and that it is the large mass and resulting high pressure that makes the surface of Venus about 450 C warmer than that of the Earth.

1. Mars has a similar CO2 concentration as Venus but is COLD, and

Why dont Hawking go live with Cher on Jupiter

The habitual zone around a sun is defined as the area not so close that temperatures are too hot for life, and not so far away that it is too cold for life. Of course the actually distance depends on the solar output of each sun. At one time Venus was considered to be too close to the sun to be in the habitual zone. Now scientist have changed their minds. I’m not so sure that this was correct. I know an over riding factor is the density of the atmosphere, but high solar radiation might have been a factor.
The recent researches of the scientist in this direction provide us with some data related to the increase of temperatures. However, they contain many contradictions.
These idiots that fall Hook.Line & Sinker for this Global Warming/Climate Change poppycock are probibly the same suckers who bought into the Save the Rain Forests scam back in the 1990’s their what P.T. Barnum was talking about when he said THERE’S A SUCKER BORN EVERY MINUTE
I’m curious, when was this that Venus had “oceans” ??? .. ANY water at all? .. tell us, when was this? … Exactly when was Venus cool enough to be able to contain water?

Sadly, Hawking’s myelopathy has apparently reached the brain. He had a blessed life considering that most similarly afflicted people would be decades dead.
