US Attorney General: We’ve ‘Discussed’ Prosecuting Climate Change Deniers

lynchThe US Department of Justice has been considering whether people should be prosecuted for the offense of climate change denial.

“This matter has been discussed. We have received information about it and have referred it to the FBI to consider whether or not it meets the criteria for which we could take action on,” said Attorney General Loretta Lynch, responding to a question from green activist Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) at a Senate Judiciary Hearing.

Whitehouse said:

“The similarities between the mischief of the tobacco industry pretending that the science of tobacco’s dangers was unsettled and the fossil fuel industry pretending that the science of carbon emissions’ dangers is unsettled has been remarked on widely, particularly by those who study the climate denial apparatus that the fossil fuel industry has erected.”

“Under President Clinton, the Department of Justice brought and won a civil RICO action against the tobacco industry for its fraud. Under President Obama, the Department of Justice has done nothing so far about the climate denial scheme,”

Perhaps the kind of RICO action Whitehouse has in mind is similar to the one proposed to President Obama a few months ago by a number of key climate scientists, led by one Jagadish Shukla of George Mason University.

Freedom of speech anyone?
This won’t hold in any court.

The first and most appropriate reaction that we all have is free speech. Even if they are only considering prosecuting corporations, these also are protected by the Bill of Rights.

However, prosecution is needed else where. Consider government agencies, especially NOAA and NASA, who have fraudulently altered data to make it appear that global warming is happening more than it is and that the warming hiatus doesn’t exist. They not only alter data, but cherry pick starting points and hide data because it doesn’t support the political cause.

This wouldn’t be a crime if done by an individual or corporation. However, this is being done at tax payer expense and being used to formulate national policy. Those two facts means those committing the fraud should be prosecuted.

When government agencies lie and manipulate data to fool the public that is a crime and that is where FBI resources would be better spent addressing . Trying to stiffen and snuff out people who’s views don’t agree with yours are what wars are fought over . If the highest branches of government in the USA judiciary even contemplate going down that path they deserve to be replaced immediately because they are clearly too stupid , disrespectful of the law ,and the founding principles of the country .
Facists laying the ground work . What’s next stars on doors ? Any wonder why Republican supporters are in open revolt of the Washington pollution spilling out over the land ?

Start pointing guns at people and don’t be surprised if they respond in kind . Shukla
whimpered off the stage once his financial
affairs were exposed . Is the FBI investigating that ?
A close look at the green industry would be the gift that keeps giving for years .
EPA grants to green groups would be a productive use of the FBI time .

The assertion that “Skeptics deny climate” is fallacious political hyperbole.
Asserting that Skeptics deny science is nonsense.
Failure to acknowledge that CO2 is required for all life on earth is science ignorance.
Failure to discover that CO2 has no significant effect on climate is science incompetence.
Changing measured data to corroborate an agenda is science malpractice.

This has just got to be pure political grandstanding – they cannot be serious.

Nice to see Shukla getting his due.

And to think these people are doing all this with our tax money.

Finally, isn’t the FBI busy with Hillary’s indictment?

Remember when people were executed or tortured for challenging the belief tat the Earth was flat.
This is no different.
“The Science is not settled”.
how could you be prosecuted for for your beliefs?
We also need to differentiate the questioning of climate Change or more appropriately Climate Variability and the reasons for the “causes”

Whitehouse is a poster boy for why Washington is so discredited . He clearly isn’t aware of history and the hard fought battles to enshrine free speech .

Wake up Whitehouse ,over 3000 scientists
have called BS on the exaggerated puffed up scare , the earth has a fever . There is no “consensus “.
Actually what is more worrisome is the fossil fuel industry could care less if the government wants to throw more taxes on consumers of fossil fuels . They won’t wear it because they are already the collection agency of multiple government taxes . They can just point the finger at politicians and other rent seekers who see a big pay off from the scary global warming lie .

After all that is what this all about $$$ . The earth better be warming otherwise we will have real serious problems .

Whitehouse is just trying to appear to be relevant on something .

Agreed Gerald Barker . Scary global warming was a massive fraud hence the sudden name change to that oh so undeniable climate change . We know what they mean .

Natural variability factors control the climate changes and humans even with their puny contribution of CO2 are virtually irrelevant .

When a cooling cycle returns , as they always have , all the huffing and puffing by humans is not going to stop it .

Scary global warming is a big bad wolf story designed to fleece the public and make some think they are controlling the earth’s thermostat . It is a complete scam .

If the scary story was true all the ring leaders would have staked their claim on additional water front properties in Antarctica but alas none have and they still fly around in private jets . The big bad wolf is out of puff .

Amber,
I don’t know what you were referring to when you said, “over 3000 scientists
have called BS on the exaggerated puffed up scare , the earth has a fever.” Should you be referring to the Oregon Petition it was over 31,000 American scientists, a more impressive number.

David Lewis You are right . It must be Friday .
Over 31,000 scientists signed that petition and many many more have spoken out since . They come from all scientific fields unlike the little clique of IPCC ghost writers many of whom must wonder how their submissions were spun so unscientifically .
Politicians and other self dealing promoters
wanted to validate the big bad wolfs scary global warming nonsense and the IPCC was their vehicle to do it . Most media were happy to sell it because they no longer need reporters that can think or do their homework.

Is it just me, or does this sound, look, and feel just like something out of a futurist novel where government, media, and academia form an oppressive pact to control the most fundamental individual liberties and freedoms?

1984 anyone?

To argue that American businesses deserve no voice when they are accused is Constitutionally absurd. The Obama Administration’s assertion is that it is the duty of businesses to bend over and drop their pants rather than respond or protest when being extorted by their government.

Furthermore, skepticism is a time honored principle of the scientific process rather than the “threat” as alleged by these political zealots who have hijacked the institution.

Shame and sadness…

Well then, anyone that wants Cap and Trade, and Carbon Pricing or Carbon Taxes should also be prosecuted as they know the difference and wants to profit from it! 😉
