Global greenhouse gas emissions began rising again last year as the first pick-up in coal burning since 2013 overshadowed a record expansion in renewable energy, a BP report said. The biggest advances in CO2 emissions were in emerging nations, with a 4.4% jump in India and a 1.6% gain in China. Carbon dioxide output also rose in Brazil, Qatar, and Russia, while Turkey’s jumped by 13%. In the EU, home to the world’s biggest carbon market, emissions from energy use advanced 1.5%. Last week a team of researchers from the UK Met Office, the University of East Anglia, the University of Gothenburg, the University of Southern Queensland and the Sorbonne published in the journal Science Advances an interesting paper showing that the recent much debated and researched 21st century “slowdown” in global surface temperatures was real and could be explained by reduced solar activity and increased volcanic counteracting climate forcing from greenhouse gases. It is interesting how President Trump was demonized and the United States became the bad guy for the intent to leave the Paris Treaty (which we were never in), and yet the US is one of the few nations to reduce CO2 output.
The people who have seriously bought into anthropological global warming because they believe in it need a different approach. With all of the failures to reduce emission mentioned in this article it is obvious that the Paris Treaty will not be successful. If they are really worried about a warming world, the resources that are being wasted on renewable energy should be spent on adaptation.
It was maybe a year ago that China took a poke at Trump, bragging that they had signed Paris while he wouldn’t.
The Left has countered the West’s argument that we have already reduced emissions through better, more efficient technology. They say that the developing world needs our financial help to achieve the same. I say that carbon dioxide emissions is way down the list.
They need medicine, sanitation, dependable electricity, infrastructure and education before solar panels and wind turbines.
And don’t turn education into indoctrination.
