Disputes between rich and poor nations at the UN’s flagship climate fund are intensifying as the money runs low.
A meeting of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) board in Songdo started unevenly on Sunday, as co-chair Paul Oquist was detained by political turmoil in Nicaragua, leaving Sweden’s Lennart Båge to run the session single-handed.
With developing countries complaining their priorities were not properly represented, it took nearly two days to agree on the agenda for the meeting.

“have ” countries must be bucking up ? Or is it like their crappy support for the UN
where the USA gets to pick up the biggest chunk of costs ?
President Trump gave the other countries cover to bail on the $trillion fraud .
I imagine that the Green Climate Fund is run like a Clinton charity. There’s a little trickle down benefit.
In a way I feel sorry for the negotiators for the developed nations, but not that sorry. Here they are at a meeting about a great deal of money that is supposed to be given away and the money isn’t there, because it shouldn’t be there. They at the negotiating table without the ability to make the promised money available and it is obvious it will never be.
One factor is that the US, the big sugar daddy, has pulled out. We can thank President Trump for that. However, as originally intended the US was going to contribute a big portion, but not all money for the fund. I don’t think it was ever defined but I guess it was around 40%. So, where is the money from the other industrial nations? Part of the problem is those most willing to donate were also the most willing to go to green energy, such as Germany, and with that impact they are less able to donate. Another factor is that the promise of $100 billion a year was made without the buy in of the people back home that control the money.
The developing nations not only think that the promise of $100 billion a year should be met, but have decided among themselves that an additional $200 billion a year is needed for their bogus claim of Loss and Damage.
This issue will not be resolved. Anyone who has been following the COP meetings knows that the past few meetings almost completely fell apart over this issue. With any luck at COP 24 this year the demand for something for nothing from the developing nations will cause a collapse.
If a capitalist tried to spark a 3rd world country into prosperity, he would be accused of exploitation.
When a socialist offers charity to the same country, it’s virtuous.
