Sen. Bernie Sanders this week introduced a bill that aims to ban hydraulic fracking.
The bill was introduced on Tuesday and is titled “a bill to ban the practice of hydraulic fracturing, and for other purposes,” according to the Library of Congress, though the text of the legislation was not available on the site.
Sanders has called for a ban on fracking while campaigning for the Democratic presidential nomination, as has Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.).
Sanders tweeted about the bill, which he said was also worked on by Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) and Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Darren Soto (D-Fla.) on Thursday. Merkley was listed as a co-sponsor.

The tweet included a video of actor Mark Ruffalo talking about a potential federal ban fracking.
“Mark Ruffalo just spoiled Bernie and AOC’s bill to ban fracking,” the video said.
However, the announcement of the bill drew criticism from those in the oil industry.
“Banning a safe, successful method of developing energy would erase a generation of American energy progress and in the process destroy millions of U.S. jobs, spike household energy costs and hurt farmers and manufacturers,” said Bethany Aronhalt, American Petroleum Institute spokeswoman.

Although such an idiotic bill won’t hurt AOC’s re-election possibilities such a bill would ensure that Sanders won’t be president if he were somehow to be the Democrat’s nominee. Trump would eat him for lunch and ensure that Pennsylvania as well as the upper mid-west would be out of reach. New Mexico would even be in play and Texas would be guaranteed to stay red.

Let’s just debunk this fracing ban nonsense:
1.) Fracing is a well studied, safe industrial process that has been legally practiced, primarily through State laws, for over 70 years in U.S oil & gas completions. There are (now) over two dozen agency & reputable university, peer reviewed scientific studies that ALL have the same top line finding: No systematic contamination of groundwater. Mark Ruffalo & Bernie need to start doing some READING.
2.) On federal lands, fracing & oil & gas operations are legal activities as duly authorized by Congress in both the Mineral Leasing Act & Federal Land Management & Policy Act, among other statutes. Any executive order issued to the contrary would QUICKLY be challenged in the courts by industry, State & local governments as an OVERREACH of executive authority.
3.) GOOD LUCK outlawing fracing on private & State lands, where 85% of our domestic O & G production occurs. To deprive a subsurface mineral owner access to their resources is a BLATANT violation of private property rights. Further, you have just usurped the authority of numerous State agencies which lawfully regulate fracing. The U.S government can anticipate (rightly) a BARRAGE of lawsuits which I am confident the courts (ultimately) will just not support that egregious abuse of power.
So, bring it on, Bernie or any of these other misinformed zealots! You’ll quickly learn what a real RESISTENCE movement looks like…
These socialist tyrants do not respect property rights, or any rights. You will do what you are told. End of story.

There is no chance that such a bill would pass even there was a big Democrat win in 2020. You need 60 senators supporting the bill not 51 because it takes 60 to stop a filibuster. What Bernie is trying to do is appeal to the radicals so he will win the nomination.
