A new peer-reviewed paper published in the International Journal of Global Warmingidentifies 79 “apocalyptic” predictions formulated since 1970 by “researchers and activists” who “predict cataclysmic events” resulting from “catastrophic climate change.”
Already 48 of these “truly apocalyptic forecasts” have failed. The other 31 are likely just as wrong, but the prediction end dates haven’t expired yet, as “the apocalypse is always about 20 years out.”
Rode and Fischbeck are “professors of Social & Decision Sciences and Engineering & Public Policy” at Carnegie Mellon University.
In a new paper and press release (surprisingly published in AAAS) they have effectively exposed a “string of repeated apocalyptic forecast failures” over the last 50 years made by such activists/scientists as Al Gore, Paul Ehrlich, and Tim Flannery.
Activists/scientists James Hansen and Michael Mann have catastrophic predictions set to expire in the 2030s, and the IPCC had a cataclysmic forecast already fail and 3 others that will expire in 2029 and 2050 (2).
The authors’ intention was to warn the climate science community about the cry-wolf dangers of repeatedly making “extreme climate forecasts” that, when they inevitably fail, “undermine the trust in the underlying science.”
It is highly likely that these warnings will be ignored, however, as “making sensational predictions of the doom of humanity, while scientifically dubious, has still proven tempting for those wishing to grab headlines.”

So pleased to see our own fake prophet of doom Tim Flannery on the list. His absurd predictions cost Australia billions of dollars and still does. Then the ultimate lie about sea level rises and he buys a house that would be under water if his rubbish came true. On that note we are still being fed almost daily lies about sea level rises. You often hear it slipped into news items as if it is actually happening. I guess the old ploy of telling a lie until it is believed remains true. As far a accurate and truthful records go sea level rises have scarcely moved a fraction in the last 100-150 years.
The obsession with AGW and renewables is like betting your house on a five-leg multi where the climate must be worsening, the cause must be carbon dioxide, the CO2 must be released by human activity, the solutions proposed must work (which probably means solar power generation at night and wind power generation on a still day) and the required spending must be affordable.
That’s about as likely as warmists thinking the first and penultimate sentence of this comment was too short.

The reason that the climate change movement can get away with a constant stream of failed predictions is that the mainstream media never reminds of the public of the past failures. It just sensationalizes the new prediction as something that is going to happen.
As far as the list of 79 predictions, consider a sports broadcast that gave the scores of the games played last weekend, but left out the team names. That list of 79 predictions doesn’t tell what the predictions were, so isn’t very useful.
