The global warming gasbags and climate catastrophists seem to have an endless amount of energy.
Like the posse chasing Butch and Sundance, they don’t get tired, or hungry, or slow down, or even break formation. But unlike that posse, they’ll never catch what they’re chasing. [emphasis, links added]
To listen to the climate alarmists, the casual observer would be convinced that the incineration of Earth due to combustion that produces carbon dioxide is imminent. As in next year … or maybe next week.
Here’s Rep. Rashida Tlaib, Democrat from Michigan:
“We have to be much more aggressive in regard to fossil fuel expansions,” she recently said.
The Daily Mail characterized her rant as a “pep talk” for activists who are laying the groundwork for “a campaign of blocking highways and chaotic protests later this summer.”
According to the Mail, “Europe’s top climate activists are planning a ‘large-scale civil disobedience campaign‘ of highway blockages, hunger strikes and disruption at ‘federal properties’ in the U.S. in August.”
One who has already obstructed the free movement of others is of course Greta Thunberg, the young Swedish climate activist who is famous for, well, being a sniveling brat feted by the world’s most superficial people even though she’s achieved nothing that would be of benefit to her fellow man.
Last week she and others were arrested for spending five days blocking oil tankers in the Malmo, Sweden, harbor. Anyone who thinks this is sane behavior should themselves immediately rush to their local mental health clinic.
Then there’s Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a tireless activist on behalf of nothing that is helpful to anyone outside of her camp of loons, and a co-member of The Squad with Tlaib.
She continues to aggressively market her Green New Deal, climate legislation that is, in reality, a “how-do-you-change-the-entire-economy” bill and would cost more money than most could possibly imagine.
Either she believes that the Canadian wildfires that dropped smoke on the U.S. are caused by man’s carbon dioxide emissions, which makes her misguided to the point of ignorance, or she’s fraudulently taking advantage of a crisis to further her hard-left agenda.
Whatever the answer, it does not recommend her as a responsible legislator.
Meanwhile, John Kerry, a one-time lousy senator from Massachusetts, owner of multiple homes and a lavish lifestyle, and now the administration’s tin star sheriff for climate, has made a particularly irresponsible climate claim, which is no small feat, given that warming activists are prone to the wildest embellishments imaginable.
While speaking last month at a climate summit, Kerry said that “15 million people are dying every single year around this planet as a consequence of greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere.”
And where is the science that backs him up? Apparently only in his head.
In a fully appropriate response, Protect the Public’s Trust filed a complaint with the State Department as well as the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, charging that Kerry “appears to have violated his obligation to maintain scientific integrity in his public communications on environmental and scientific topics.”
The group asked the administration “to immediately open an investigation into whether Mr. Kerry violated pertinent scientific integrity policy and what remedial actions are recommended to correct the record for the public and for any other public officials who may unwittingly rely on such factually inaccurate information to support their decision-making.”
Let’s not wait too anxiously for a satisfactory resolution because none will be forthcoming. The alarmists are never held accountable.
Before moving on, we should list a few other recent developments that qualify as climate nonsense:
- Hospitals are becoming “climate change fighting machines” by limiting water use in operating room sinks and “reducing anesthetics during surgery.”
- New York City is cracking down on coal- and wood-fired pizzerias, which “must cut carbon emissions up to 75%.”
- French President Emmanuel Macron is looking for support for an international taxation system to finance the fight against global warming.
For how long will the foolishness continue?
We’ve had 35 years of warnings, hectoring, and shrieking, yet we’re no nearer a climate disaster than we were when NASA’s James Hansen swore before the Senate in 1988 that “global warming has begun.”
Sure, there’s been rough weather. But that’s the planet we live on. Nothing has happened that would be considered outside the natural variations of the planet or irrefutably caused by man.
We are safer than ever from the weather. That’s a fact. Doubters are free to look it up.
In response to our own question, the answer is as long as there are grifters; status seekers; free market eliminationists; anti-capitalists; socialists; Marxists; busybodies; virtue signalers; and elites who believe resources are running out and they want to reserve what’s left for themselves, the global warming fanaticism will run hot.
Yet we hope it’s reaching its peak because we’re weary of all the craziness out there.
