The thousands who flocked to Germany for the United Nations climate summit will end up, rather ironically, emitting thousands of tons of the very greenhouse gases attendees want to regulate.
The U.N. admits the “lion’s share of greenhouse gas emissions” associated with their latest climate summit, and up to 25,000 people are expected to attend the U.N. summit in Bonn, which kicked off Monday.
Most attendees will get to Bonn by aircraft, the U.N. said. Representatives from governments, environmental groups, businesses and media outlets will flood the U.N.’s World Conference Center to discuss, among other things, the 2015 Paris climate agreement on climate change.
While the U.N. has taken steps to power the conference and associated transportation with “clean” energy, most of the emissions associated with the climate summit will come from air travel.
Pierre-Henri Guignard, the secretary general of the 2015 summit, told The New York Times that year that “85 percent of the carbon footprint of the conference is linked to travel by the delegations.”
The 2015 conference in Paris was held at Le Bourget, Europe’s busiest private jet airport. That U.N. conference emitted more than 300,000 tons of carbon dioxide, in no small part thanks to a large number of national leaders that attended the event.
President Barack Obama’s attendance at the Paris summit cost taxpayers $2,976,296.20, according to records obtained by Judicial Watch. Obama’s flight on Air Force One alone emitted 189 tons of CO2, more than what 31 U.S. homes emit in a year.
Obama’s travel to the 2014 U.N. climate summit in New York City emitted nearly 22 times more CO2 than the average American emits in an entire year. The president’s plane and massive security detail really adds up.
The Paris summit, however, was much larger than Bonn. Nearly 150 world leaders and 45,000 people attended the summit — most of those people traveled long distances by plane.
The U.N. encouraged participants at Bonn to “offset” their airline emissions through buying “emissions reductions credits,” including credits to help small island nations cope with projected global warming.
Basically, individuals or companies can purchase “credits” that fund green energy projects, reforestation or other projects that sequester CO2 that, in theory, offset air travel.
Emissions offsets have come under intense scrutiny in recent years. In 2013, the Atlantic reported on rampant fraud in another U.N. carbon offset scheme meant curbing CO2 emissions from deforestation.
The Atlantic reported “many projects that don’t meet the UN’s environmental requirements end up eventually being sold on the voluntary carbon market” and other “projects offer carbon credits that are inflated in number based on misleading methodologies, do not exist on anything but paper … may serve as a front for other illicit activities.”
Conference organizers also took pains to make sure they get as much green energy as possible and use electric vehicles. All “unavoidable” emissions from the Bonn conference will be offset by the German government.

The Paris Pledge was deceitfully signed off by the Democrats (Obama ) to avoid the necessary approval of Congress which he knew was never going to happen . They assumed they were going to get back in and the $billions in tax payer rip off would already be spent . In fact the Obama administration illegally slid through a $ half billion UN payment before he went off holidaying .
Now we know the Democrats paid for and promoted the fake Russia smear dossier, including paying “journalists” to print defamatory allegations on President Trump.
Is there any doubt the same “journalist’s ” and their companies
didn’t take money to hype the scary global warming scam . Count on it . Does anyone seriously doubt that the “renewable ” industry
wasn’t shoveling money off the back of a truck to furl the con -game ?
When tax payers get ripped off $Billions by self serving con men
a Special Prosecutor should be automatic . Why not give Mueller something real to do for the big wad of cash he is billing to pursue a “nothing burger ” .
One thing that climate realists should be aware of (I prefer this term) is the “2018 Facilitative Dialogue”. Preliminary work is to be done at this conference and as one might guess the plan is to implement in 2018 at COP 24. From my reading this dialogue appears to be a plan to coerce nations into increasing their pledges to reduce emissions under the Paris Treaty.
Critics of this treaty are not the only ones who know it is inadequate if the UN climate models were correct. It is supporters know this too, and the 2018 Facilitative Dialogue addresses this issue. With China and India under no obligations to make reductions and the United States out of the treaty, which are the three largest emitters, I wonder how they expect to make progress.
On one of COP 23’s web sites (the UN international conference that started this week) they said that the damage from extreme weather events showed the urgency for climate action. Yet, the IPCC (the UN’s climate science group) has stated that extreme weather events do not appear to be increasing. So here the people running COP are not only unaware that there is no relationship between carbon dioxide and warming, they are also unaware of what their own scientists are saying. Yet, they are planning spending trillions of dollars of our money based on nothing more than their dilutions.
I don’t remember if it was the same web site, but they are also stressing that the Paris Treaty is irreversible, putting that word in italics. I’m sure that they are referring to the US withdrawal. However, the treaty contains provisions for withdrawing. Obviously they are ignorant of its content.
For people in these positions to have such ignorance shows extreme incompetence. What is most distressing is that people who are so incompetence become the leaders of a world wide conference.
They fly all the way to Germany to schedule the next exciting planet saving meeting . So reassuring they are “offsetting ” their emissions . Phew ! Hope they get all those beer belches too .
So tax payers get to pay for their all inclusive holiday and a
price for their emissions . I never signed on for that .
In plain English it’s called theft .
