A new European Alps hydroclimate reconstruction spanning the years 8980 BC to 2014 CE has been derived from the stable isotopes of 192 trees (Arosio et al., 2025). [emphasis, links added]
The reconstruction clearly distinguishes centennial-scale warm periods such as the Medieval Warm Period (MWP), Roman Warm Period (RWP), and millennial-scale African Humid Period (when the Sahara was green, lake- and fauna-covered).
These warmer centuries (millennia) were accompanied by wetter, much more humid climates.
In contrast, the coldest centuries of the Holocene, such as the Little Ice Age (18th and 19th centuries) and Late Antique Little Ice Age (6th century), had the driest hydroclimates with the “most severe summer droughts of the past 9,000 years.”
Mass migration punctuated these cold periods.
Interestingly, the hydroclimate reconstruction shows the modern period (1900-2014) is no wetter (or warmer) than the 19th century’s Little Ice Age – the coldest, driest period of the last 9,000 years.
There has been no dramatic change or “uptick” in the last century.
“We suggest that much of Europe was not only warmer but also wetter during most of the preindustrial Holocene.”

Politics, economics or ideology do not mix with science; the classic example of the disasters caused by politics with ideology would be Lysenkoism. It’s blindingly obvious that climate science today is mostly driven by politics with a heavy sprinkling of quasi -religious cultism. Qui bono or “follow the money”.
“There has been no dramatic change or “uptick” in the last century.”

This is complete nonsense, as expected from Ken Richard.
Europe has indeed gotten warmer in the past century. In fact, it’s warming faster than the global average, making it the fastest-warming continent. Temperature records indicate that the average temperature over European land has increased significantly, particularly in recent decades.
The average temperature over European land was only slightly warmer in the early 1980s compared to a century earlier, but has risen sharply in the past 40 years.
Europe has warmed faster than any other continent in recent decades. The average rate of temperature increase over Europe is about 0.5°C per decade.
When you see Ken Richard in the byline, stop reading.
So Richard, you are blaming Ken for the study? That would be funny if it wasn’t such a pathetic response.
If you have such a problem with these findings and with your apparent extreme dislike for both Ken and facts, why are you trolling this forum?
I’ve wondered the same thing about Greene. And have asked him numerous times about his educational background as compared to those he ridicules who actually have PhDs in relevant fields. From what I have found Greene has an MBA which isn’t exactly in the fields of Geology, Meteorology, or similar areas.
