There’s a growing trend among some environmentalists left that encompasses everything from using sustainable sex toys to having sex with trees, according to one academic.
Ecosexuals are people who get off on Mother Nature, according to Vice. Jennifer Reed, a sociologist at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas, said the ecosexuality movement includes people who “try to use sustainable sex products, or who enjoy skinny dipping and naked hiking.”
On the extreme end, ecosexuals are “people who roll around in the dirt having an orgasm covered in potting soil” and “people who fuck trees, or masturbate under a waterfall,” Reed said.
Apparently, the term ecosexual has existed since the early 2000s, but didn’t become of social movement until 2008 when a San Francisco lesbian couple Annie Sprinkle and Elizabeth Stephens made it their life goals to promote ecosexualism.
Sprinkle and Stephens even created an “ecosex manifesto” stating the “Earth is our lover.” They go on to write how they “caress rocks, are pleasured by waterfalls, and admire the Earth’s curves often.”
“We make love with the Earth through our senses,” they wrote. “We celebrate our E-spots. We are very dirty.”
