It’s no secret that the once-beloved children’s program Sesame Street has now become the consummate preschool-targeted vehicle for some of the left’s most toxic ideologies, the latest being climate change. And the green cult over at The New York Times is all here for it. [some emphasis, links added]
On Wednesday, Times climate reporter David Gelles was just tickle-me-Elmo’ed over a recent Sesame Street episode rife with Al Gore-ian undertones, declaring his admiration from the get-go with the headline for his item:
“Extreme Weather Brings Fierce Winds, and Gentle Hugs, to Sesame Street.”
Gelles exploited the clear, juvenile political propaganda to foment the run-of-the-mill apocalypto scare porn:
“No place is safe from climate change these days. Not even Sesame Street, where sunny days used to sweep the clouds away.”
Talk about flipping a Big Bird to readers’ intelligence.
Once Gelles got going, it was off to the races of low-IQ eco-spin on Sesame Street titled, “Storm on Sesame Street,” which streamed on Netflix and PBS Kids:
“On Monday, a fierce storm tore through the set of the 57-year-old children’s show, knocking over lampposts, blowing out windows and scattering debris around Oscar the Grouch’s trash can.”
Gelles regurgitated that the episode was supposedly “created to help children make sense of the extreme weather that has become increasingly common across the world as the planet warms.”
Watching the trailer for the episode in this context was pure cringe.
But, in an amazing plot twist, Gelles argued Sesame Street didn’t go far enough in its embrace of climate cultism.
“Left unaddressed in the episode was where all this extreme weather is coming from, and why it’s increasing,” he wrote. He further lamented that, “There was no mention of climate change, let alone the fossil fuel emissions that are the main driver of global warming.”
Of course, Gelles couldn’t keep himself from somehow shoe-horning President Donald Trump’s push to defund public broadcasting as being to blame for stumping the reach of the climate message:
“Last year, President Trump signed an executive order seeking to eliminate funding for PBS and NPR, which the order cited as “biased media.” Two months later, Congress voted to claw back roughly $500 million in annual funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the organization that distributes federal money to NPR and PBS.”
Leaving aside the fact that Sesame Street only airs on PBS as reruns, with first-run and streaming rights having decamped to HBO in 2015 and then to Netflix last year, the whole nod to the climate lobby actually proves why defunding public broadcasting of tax dollars was a salient move.
Gelles seethed at Trump for calling climate change a “hoax” and raged at how “his administration has rolled back a host of environmental regulations, decimated funding for climate science and scrubbed mentions of climate change from government websites, among other moves.”
Gelles might as well say his reporting was brought to you by the letter “G” for green.
