Is your car really necessary? The World Economic Forum (WEF) doesn’t think so.
It has published a paper that calls for an end to “wasteful” private car ownership in favor of communal sharing to lessen global demands for precious metals and fossil fuels.
The unelected elites in Geneva, Switzerland, argue that too many people own private vehicles for the planet’s good. [bold, links added]
Most are barely driven and a universal model that will take consumers “from owning to using” their cars is the way forward.
“The average car or van in England is driven just 4% of the time,” the WEF paper sets out.
Instead of having vehicles sit idle, sell your car and walk or share because “Car sharing platforms such as Getaround and BlueSG have already seized that opportunity to offer vehicles where you pay per hour used.”
The end of private ownership is essential, according to the WEF, and can be applied to everything from cars to private homes and even city-wide design principles.
“A design process that focuses on fulfilling the underlying need instead of designing for product purchasing is fundamental to this transition,” the WEF sets out. “This is the mindset needed to redesign cities to reduce private vehicles and other usages.”
The WEF is not alone in seeing almost criminal culpability in anyone who owns a vehicle for private use.
As Breitbart News reported, the International Energy Agency (IEA) has directed global governments to urgently cut oil supply to domestic consumers and encourage compliance with its call for lowered consumption by “nudging” people out of their private cars.
The IEA 10-point plan to drive “changes in the behavior of consumers” and reduce gas demand at the pump includes reducing speed limits, working from home three days a week, more electric cars, car-free Sundays, more cycle lanes, cheaper public transport, and greater use of long-distance trains over planes.
Drivers in Ireland have already been warned they will be forced off the roads and the population packed into “higher density” cities under a climate plan which will “revolutionize” people’s lifestyles and behaviors.
To avert a “climate apocalypse”, the government plans to force people “out of private cars because they are the biggest offenders for emissions” with proposals that include banning fossil fuel vehicles from towns and cities nationwide to intentionally cripple ordinary motorists, local media reports.

There are no gods in human form walking the earth. Unfortunately there is an abundance of people who think that they have the right to act like a god. That is exactly what the self proclaimed deities of the World Economic Forum in Geneva are doing. They demand that large numbers of people in the western world accept a significant reductions in our standard of living. I’m sure they don’t plan to implement their goals with a popular vote.
Some people are fine with public transportation. However, that isn’t true with most of us or we would be using it. My daughter was a good example. In order to avoid the high parking fees at the University Of Washington in Seattle, she drove half the distance to a park and ride and took the bus the rest of the way. Taking public transit for half distance made the over all trip take triple the time. This was such an impact she decided to drive the entire distance and pay the high parking fees. The extra time for public transportation has to come from some where and quite literally amounts to taking part of a person’s life away. This can mean not participating kid’s sports, not gardening, or less socializing with friends. There are also issues such as standing in the freezing rain or in the heat, or in some locations safety is an issue to compared to that provided by a car.
I have worked hard since I was a teenager to be able to return to a rural area. We now live in a location that will never be served by public transportation. We can not afford an electric car. So giving up our cars would mean giving up our home. I guess this is consistent with the goals of the World Economic Forum who want to force everyone into apartments.
My daughter just read an article that the World Economic Forum is advocating that people eat bugs. I wonder how many of the self proclaimed deities in Geneva are doing so.
The WEF just like the UN needs to get the boot and America needs to pull out of the United nations and dump the WEF
So much attention automatically goes to the call to force people out of their cars that the private homes in the following statement may have been over looked. “The end of private ownership is essential, according to the WEF, and can be applied to everything from cars to private homes.” I assume they are advocating that everyone be forced to live in apartments. For those of us who do live in private homes, especially for those us who have acreage, this would a drastic reduction in our standard of living.
The WEF can set a good example by ditching their Private Jets,Limos and Yachts and take up living in Tents or Mud Huts time for them to practice what they preach
John Kerry and Bill Gates are in the WEF with of course nothing to lose from these Globalists and their plans for a World Government using Pandemics and Lock Downs Gates and Microsoft Big Brothers watching You 1984
How does the “private” ownership of cars that are only used 4% of the time contribute to climate issues? Isn’t the use of cars dictated by need regardless of who “owns” them? Of course, that’s the point. The government will control what you need, and your freedom of movement.
And we should all wear a form of synthetic woolly tracksuit with zips
Why not banish fossil – fueled vehicles during elections? If an election is conducted over days or weeks, so be it. Voters only on foot or bicycles. Vote early and vote often by mail. At the polling stations, Tesla – only parking spots. That oughta level the playing field.
WEF should be renamed to WTF!
The elites have no interest in anyone’s wellbeing or could care less about anyone except themselves. They prattle on about everyone but themselves while they live in their luxury soaked cocoons. They fly in private jets, live like kings and expect the masses to jump when they say so. It also often seems they think they are immortal, they are not. Their ‘dear leader’ needs to take a good look in a mirror and see what the passing of time is doing and stop telling us what to do.
Hitch hiking sucks.
Ditching WEF would make more sense.
Screw the World Economic Forum and the Jackass they rose in on we dont need any stupid advice from a bunch of total knownothings like them
