In a scathing critique on Tuesday, the White House said Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s attendance at the United Nations climate talks (COP30) in Brazil reveals his insincerity and has “embarrassing” implications. [emphasis, links added]
The White House told the Daily Caller News Foundation in a statement that “Newscum flew all the way to Brazil to tout the Green New Scam” while Californians pay “some of the highest energy prices in the country.”
White House Spokeswoman Taylor Rogers added that if “Newsum’s [sic] support for the climate agenda was sincere,” he would not attend COP30 as developers reportedly cut down “thousands of acres of protected Amazon rainforest for a special purpose highway” ahead of the conference.
“Governor Newscum flew all the way to Brazil to tout the Green New Scam, while the people of California are paying some of the highest energy prices in the country. Embarrassing!” Rogers told the DCNF.
“It’s time for Newscum and other countries to drop the climate façade! President Trump will not allow the best interests of the American people to be jeopardized by the Green Energy Scam. These Green Dreams are killing other countries, but will not kill ours thanks to President Trump’s common-sense energy agenda.”
Asked for comment and how the governor traveled to Brazil, Newsom’s office offered a two-word response to the DCNF: “commercial airline.”
Newsom has critiqued the Trump administration for not attending COP30 in Brazil, saying on Monday that “I literally came out here. I’m just stunned.”
“I’ve got four kids. The hell is going on in my country?” Newsom continued on Monday. “Not one person from the administration showed any respect to any of you. Forget politics. Disrespect … Instead, [President Donald Trump showed you the] middle finger with 50% tariffs. That’s shameful.”
Newsom’s press office released a statement on Nov. 5 that said, “As Trump abandons people and the planet, Governor Newsom heads to COP30 in Brazil.”
President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social on Sunday that “they ripped the hell out of the Rainforest of Brazil to build a four-lane highway for Environmentalists to travel” in reference to the Avenida Liberdade, which was reportedly carved out of the Amazon rainforest to ease travel for attendees, according to a March BBC report.
The Brazilian state denied that the highway was built for COP30, noting that project plans were in motion before Brazil was selected to host COP30, Reuters reported in March.
