When Sen. Mazie Hirono suggested Americans should “believe in climate change as though it’s a religion,” some enterprising Canadians were listening.
A website called Shrine On is among the many selling Greta Thunberg prayer candles, so supplicants can ask the climate gods to stop destroying us or something.
“Pray to Saint Greta Thunberg, Saint of Climate Change,” the Shrine On description reads. The candle, which includes a picture of Greta Thunberg dressed up as Jesus Christ often is in votive candles, sells for $18 plus shipping.
The Etsy listing is slightly cheaper at $14.43, and it reveals that the item will be ready to ship from Canada in 3-5 business days.
Related items on the website include prayer candles featuring drag star RuPaul, Judge Judy, and Oprah.
Another Greta candle on Etsy, also going for $18 but shipping from Chicago casts the 16-year-old climate doomsday preacher as the Virgin Mary, complete with the sacred heart image — a heart pierced with a sword.
In her left hand, the climate saint holds a globe designed like a bomb with a lit fuse.
Another enterprising huckster is selling a Greta prayer candle for $20.20 — with free shipping from Philadelphia to any location in the US. This Thunberg features the sacred heart of Jesus and one hand with the stigmata — the wounds from Jesus’ crucifixion.
The site Illuminidol is also selling a prayer candle depicting the saint of climate change, this time adapting the famous painting of Jesus holding a white lamb.
The $15 candle was made in Texas and ships anywhere in the U.S by priority mail. The website bills the prayer candle as “the most divine way to bless any Thunberg disciple!”
Of course, most sellers and buyers of the Greta Thunberg prayer candles likely intend them to be a gag gift.
The Roman Catholic Church has not declared Thunberg a saint — Catholics generally have to be dead before they can be considered.
However, a bizarre reverence for this 16-year-old activist is tragically real. Climate scolds have taken to installing pictures of the doomsday preacher in kitchens to discourage people from using plastic utensils.
Thunberg became TIME‘s person of the year — because she’s been scared to death by the climate propaganda.
Who is this person, you might ask? Well, her parents are celebrities — an actor and an opera singer. Standpoint magazine’s Dominic Green revealed just how orchestrated Thunberg’s big breakout was, and just who stands to gain from it.
“The Greta phenomenon has also involved green lobbyists, PR hustlers, eco-academics, and a think-tank founded by a wealthy ex-minister in Sweden’s Social Democratic government with links to the country’s energy companies. These companies are preparing for the biggest bonanza of government contracts in history: the greening of the Western economies. Greta, whether she and her parents know it or not, is the face of their political strategy,” he wrote. “For Sweden’s energy titans, saving the planet means government contracts to print the green stuff.”
“Green energy lobbyists use populist scare tactics and a children’s crusade to bypass elected representatives, but their goal is a technocracy not a democracy, profit not redistribution. Greta, a child of woke capitalism, is being used to ease the transition to green corporatism,” Green explained.
Last year, Myron Ebell, director at the Center for Energy and the Environment at the Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI), told PJ Media that the climate crisis “has been manufactured in order to create a huge climate-industrial complex that can command the redistribution of colossal amounts of money.”
“There is a huge climate-industrial complex benefitting from this, but it’s not reducing emissions,” he said.
Serious, economically-minded environmentalists encourage innovation, not the kind of government control and technocracy Thunberg advances.
Meanwhile, bold climate change predictions continue to fall flat, even as alarmists insist the planet is ending or whatever. The green movement looks more and more like a cult.
Media outlets like NBC News encourage readers to confess their climate sins, and one seminary even had a “ritual” involving confessing to plants.
Madness like this makes it at least a bit plausible that a few of the people buying Greta Thunberg prayer candles may actually use them to petition Saint Greta to save the world.
