Twitter banned all political ads on its platform, to the applause of the left. But now the left wants more.
Democratic Party presidential candidate Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) tweeted that Twitter “need[ed] accountability” when it came to climate change ads.
She echoed the complaints of tech blogger Will Oremus, who said that the Twitter ad ban will hurt “activists, labor groups, and organizers.”
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey responded to Warren’s tweets, saying that the company would take her complaints into “consideration.”
Warren’s tweets were based on a story from climate change outlet Heated, “a newsletter for people who are pissed off about the climate crisis,” that Exxon ads were not labeled as political issue ads.
In the Twitter ad ban, announced on Oct. 30 from Dorsey’s account, “issue ads present a way to circumvent…So we’re stopping these too.”
Warren stated, “Twitter’s new ad policy will allow fossil fuel companies to buy ads defending themselves and spreading misleading info—but won’t allow organizations fighting the climate crisis to buy ads holding those companies accountable.”
She slammed companies like Exxon, saying, “It turns out if you’re a giant corporation with millions to spend misleading people on your record of accelerating the climate crisis, that’s exactly what you can—and probably will—do.”
Instagram and Facebook executive Adam Mosseri appeared to agree with Warren, tweeting, “This is one of the key issues many miss about banning political ads on any platform. You can’t ban these ads without significantly inhibiting the ability of activists, labor groups, and organizers to make their cases too.”
Dorsey responded, saying, “That’s not exactly right, Adam. We gave ourselves until the 15th to make sure we’re addressing concerns like this thoughtfully. More before then!”
Warren has distinguished herself in the conversation over political ads on social media platforms by running her own false ads on Facebook.

Well said. Why in the world Canadians should be alarmed at the prospect of some warming is hard to fathom — until you see the determined efforts from our formerly “sunny ways” led government and the equally deluded leftist parties, supported by the taxpayer-funded CBC (Catastrophe Boosting Club).

Really?? NO! It’s Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and progressives in general with BILLIONS spent misleading Americans about a climate crisis lie to further their un-american progressive agenda. Lying… that’s exactly what they are doing.
BTW: There is absolutely no evidence that Exxon or any other oil & gas company misled the public about climate change in ANY of the advertisements or internal documents examined, in full context. If you have been following the floundering “Exxon Knew” campaign over the past 4 years, you know that statement is true. Now that the NY Attorney General’s fraud case against Exxon has rested, I think a judge will confirm the same pattern…A lot of SMOKE, little fire…
What our country really needs is an HONEST & comprehensive discussion about energy policy and the needed strategies to protect our energy system & promote sensible environmental regulation. In a perfect world, Elizabeth Warren and an “all star” panel of environmental & social activists would debate with energy experts on TRANSITION of the U.S energy system. These activists cannot win on FACTS and that is why they need to be EXPOSED. Policies like the Green New Deal have no basis in reality and are just confusing issues and delaying a thoughtful, well informed debate. If the oil & gas industry put up a panel of qualified folks to debate the activist “A Team,” they would MOP THE FLOOR with them…
Like Michael Mann refusing to debate any number of scientists who disagree with his hockey stick and other crap he’s put out these people pushing the idea we can go “carbon free” won’t debate those who know there’s no way in hell that will work. They know they can’t win.
