The Washington Post Editorial Board tried to freak Americans out by claiming that some communities “will have to be abandoned” completely because it would cost too much money to save them from climate change.
“There are few easy answers, but humanity must — with urgency — prepare now,” The Washington Post Editorial Board declared in a Sept. 18 editorial. [bold, links added]
The headline was equally inflammatory: “The world’s ice is melting. Humanity must prepare for the consequences.”
This wasn’t the first time that The Post lost its mind over climate change. The liberal paper published two stories in July that signaled imminent climate doom for the U.S. and Europe.
The Post threw around climate buzzwords like “doomsday glacier” and “zombie ice” to prop up a nutty solution — even by the standards of climate change fanatics — that “[a]s harsh as it sounds, there are certain places where it will not make sense to spend lots of money trying to keep back the tides. Some will have to be abandoned.” [Emphasis added].
So, “Some” will have to sacrifice their homes to the climate-change gods, it seems, unless one lives in a major metropolis or on a naval base, according to The Post.
The newspaper argued that megacities like Manhattan, which is “vital to the U.S. economy,” may have to be protected by “massive sea gates that would close off New York Harbor during big storms.”
No, dear reader, this is not The Babylon Bee.
The Post added that Hampton Roads, a site with “expansive naval facilities,” must also be protected because “[e]xpensive engineering efforts will be justifiable for critical areas.” Tough luck then for the folks living in rural towns and suburbia, eh Washington Post?
But when exactly should the millions of Americans living outside “critical areas” prepare for the climate apocalypse? The answer to that question, according to The Post, is not so clear.
“What is rapid in geological time seems slow on human time scales,” the board wrote. “The most severe consequences of melting ice caps might not come for decades or even longer.”
Apparently, the so-called “experts” don’t even have their act together on the accuracy of this doomsday scenario, either: “Given how little the experts know about the dynamics of these behemoth ice formations, their predictions could still be off.” Go figure.
Someone needs to contact environmentalist icon and owner of The Post Jeff Bezos to warn him of the impending climate disaster.
Bezos reportedly owns a “superyacht,” but came under fire after The Conversation revealed that some superyachts can emit up to 7,020 tons of carbon dioxide per year.
That is 3,510 times more than the average person, who emits roughly “two tons” of CO2 a year through eating, according to the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology.

According to past media predictions, Miami Florida was supposed to be under water by now. In reality oceans have been on a “slow creep” for the last 150 years and show no signs of accelerating. The only place there is disastrous sea level rise is in the media hype.
Even if this is true, Americans move fairly regularly, so just don’t buy your next home in a coastal flood plane. Unless you are Obama, and you know this is all bunk. Then go ahead and purchase that seaside mansion.
There has been no substantial glacial melting in 12,000 years.
When do the jerks at WaPo say it will start?
Zombie ice is probably real. After all, it explains a lot about Joe Biden…
Washington Compost Obama lives close to the Beach if this Global Warming/Climate Change stuff was real he would be living further inland. Did they watch that putrid Keven Cosner Bomb Water World for 12 straight hours?
Oh, and Wapo… Climate kills one-tenth the number of people it did a century ago. (down from half a million a year to only fifty-six thousand today) A lack of energy kills more than 300 times that. Every year. What should frighten schoolchildren is their indoctrination in lies. And you’re part of it, Wapo.
Do your homework Wapo. You purport to love the environment, yet show not even a basic understanding of it. I’m a dryland farmer with a biology degree. Civilization’s first and defining new technology was agriculture. The tech that has so much improved over the last century, we feed a population that has nearly tripled over that timeframe. My entire living every year depends on the climate. It also means I understand very well that the environment, and every living thing in it, depends on CO2 to exist. Our environment is carbon based. Life was born in luxuriant levels of CO2 more than twenty times the starvation level lows of today. It is grown and composed entirely of little carbon sacks of water called cells. And in spite of the only green recycling of the source of that carbon, CO2, by fossil fuels, our environment and our agriculture remain at starvation level lows of CO2 (any level below 2,000ppm). More CO2 from using fossil fuels makes food production greater, and the environment greener. It makes the environment, stronger, more drought tolerant, and abundant. Ask Dr. Patrick Moore, co-founder of Greenpeace. Wapo needs to fact-check themselves. Because in spite of all the evidence, they have this ridiculous notion that 0.04% of the atmosphere, the basic ingredient of our carbon based life on earth – CO2 – controls the temperature. It doesn’t. The failure of over 100 CO2 driven climate models prove that it doesn’t. The reality is there is barely enough CO2 in the atmosphere to support land based life! (There is fifty times the amount of life essential CO2 dissolved in earth’s rivers and oceans than in the atmosphere.) Earth’s natural temperature range for the last three million year ongoing Pleistocene/Quaternary Ice Age remains 12 degrees C. As it has been for more than two million years before Homo Sapiens Sapiens even evolved. As it has been before human beings even discovered fire and later how to recover the solar energy trapped in fossil fuels to make us the best fed, longest living, most prosperous human beings that have ever existed. During interglacial phases of our current ice age, temperatures rise and fall four degrees C naturally every nine hundred years. And have been doing so during interglacial periods for the last three million years. Too bad they don’t teach journalists even the basics of environmental and climate science. If they did they’d quit frightening schoolchildren with their lies and ignorance. They’d learn how much healthier and stronger the environment is from more CO2. Dummy up Wapo. The world needs a strong capable journalism. You need to get better.
Excellent summary Barry..
Thanks for that..
