Be afraid. Once the coronavirus pandemic is done and dealt with, a United Nations report warned Wednesday searing, unrelenting heat could lay waste to large swathes of the planet, killing millions who have no means to escape a massive climate change event.
The grim climate tidings are contained in a draft U.N. report that predicts dire consequences for billions if “global warming continues unchecked,” updating earlier climate models that suggested it would take nearly another century of unabated carbon pollution to spawn heatwaves exceeding the absolute limit of human endurance.
Now unprecedented killer heatwaves are forecast to be on the near horizon, according to a 4,000-page Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) study, as seen by AFP before its scheduled release in February 2022.
AFP reports work of the U.N.’s climate science advisory panel paints a frightening — and deadly — picture for a warming planet, providing yet another set of warnings to add to those that have gone before.
Earlier this year John Kerry, whom President Joe Biden appointed as the United States special presidential envoy for climate, said in an interview with the BBC only nine years remain to save the planet from destruction, as Breitbart News reported.
If the world warms by 1.5 degrees Celsius — 0.4 degrees above today’s level — 14 percent of the population will be exposed to severe heatwaves at least once every five years, “a significant increase in heatwave magnitude”, the report says.
Going up half a degree would add another 1.7 billion people.
Ultimately, high heat will destroy more lives indirectly rather than by reaching levels at which the body simply shuts down, the IPCC report suggests.
Higher temperatures will spread disease vectors, reduce crop yields and nutrient values, slash labor productivity and make outdoor manual labor a life-threatening activity while starving populations multiply across the planet.
In all, it says the climate crisis is real and must not be ignored, now or most certainly not in the near future.
CCD Editor’s Note: The AFP article doesn’t indicate which computer model this report is based on (likely the worst-case and most unlikely scenario) even though it admits that the report is based on computer modeling. The fact the IPCC released an early draft nearly a year before its official release date of Feb. 2022 shows this is going to be a whopper of myths, lies, and outright distortions.

Not just heatwaves but climate change is causing horrific tropical diseases to move north into the USA

The UN was never made for World Peace its all for World Government with them ruling over us all
The UN report is such obvious propaganda that I doubt even the authors believe it. When writing a phony report to push the agenda items hitchhiking on the climate change movement, I have noticed two approaches. One is to say huge changes are coming. They never happen, but are always coming. For that they use the Climate Model RCP 8.5 that predicts warming of ten degrees. The approach that is used in the recent UN report is to say that small changes that are likely to happen, such as warming 0.4 or 0.5 degree, will have disastrous consequences. The trouble with that approach is we already have variation in temperature from year to your or between similar environments with no drastic impacts. It does not make sense to say that a rise of 0.5 degrees will subject 1.7 billion people to extreme heat.
The real threat is cold. We are at the beginning of a solar minimum so the world will be getting colder. At the same time, action on climate change will cause the cost of heating to sky rocket. This will be a deadly combination. The elderly, who are the most vulnerable to cold, are the least able to pay for the increase in heating costs. This has already resulted in tens of thousands of fuel poverty deaths in the UK.
With a little education very hot conditions are survivable. In 1934 people slept under wet bed sheets. The use of clothing that can be wet down is another way to survive. If available there are parks, fountains, and lakes.
So, what is the best way to deal with heat? Oh, I don’t know, perhaps fossil fueled power plants that would allow those threatened with slightly higher temperatures with air conditioning. Instead this same UN agency wants fossil fuel plants shut down and we then live without A/C. The whole reason that places like Phoenix have seen such growth is the availability of low-cost electricity so that 110F temps are easily handled.
Of course, this “study” will be shown to be as much total BS as every other prediction of gloom and doom over the last several decades.
If you can ever trust a thing from the Useless Nations which was never created for Peace in the first place its way past time to evict the whole lot of them and move them to Moscow but without America to push around
Will outdoor manual labour be life-threatening in the depths of a Siberian winter if it warms by four tenths of a degree Celsius?
Well, I guess that it will be, just as it is now and was before.
As for heat, I live in inland Australia and work outside, even in summer (when I try to keep in the shade). I’d rather that than a Siberian winter where cows have to wear bras to stop their teats from freezing off.
And I think my supposedly planet-killing cows might feel the same way too.
