The United Nations took a thinly veiled swipe at conservative voters in its latest assessment of global progress on climate change.
The 2018 Emission Gap Report — released on Tuesday by the U.N. Environment — includes a segment that attacks people who do not accept climate change as a pressing issue.
Voters who do not care enough about global warming, the report claims, are a leading cause behind nations missing their pollution targets.
Blaming “costs and political behavioral barriers to fiscal reforms,” the study describes the situation as solution aversion — an instance in which someone who doesn’t like the solutions to a problem simply denies the problem even exists.
“There is a tendency for citizens to question problems if policy solutions challenge their world views,” the authors of the study write.
They argue behavioral and cultural changes must take place in order for international leaders to be successful in reducing the world’s greenhouse gas emissions.
It’s the first time the United Nations has singled out political ideology in the nine years it has published the annual Emission Gap Report.
The Emission Gap Report follows two other major environmental studies — one by the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and another one by the Trump administration.
Both concluded that drastic action must be taken to curb climate change, or else face dire environmental consequences.
President Donald Trump counts himself as a global warming skeptic, but he identifies as a skeptic with “high intelligence.”
“One of the problems that a lot of people like myself, we have very high levels of intelligence but we’re not necessarily such believers,” Trump told The Washington Post during a Tuesday interview. “As to whether or not it’s man-made and whether or not the effects that you’re talking about are there, I don’t see it.”
While the Trump administration has received heavy criticism or withdrawing from the Paris climate agreement, the U.S. last year was able to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions while the rest of the world saw a rise in global emissions.

What we have in reality is the opposite mechanism to solution aversion. Leftist are embracing solutions that don’t work for real problems or solutions for phony problems because their solution advances their political agendas.
“There is a tendency for citizens to question problems if policy solutions challenge their world views,” the authors of the [UN] study write.
Well, there is a tendency for the UN to get into people’s business where it doesn’t belong. Maybe we all don’t want to comply with the elite rulers predesignated submissive behavior while they take over.
Don’t you think the UN facility would make a great shelter for homeless vets? better then the bunch of world crinimals living there now
The UN operates under the mistaken idea that they are best suited to head world government. If they are successful the UN Secretary-General will morph into World Emperor. It’s clear that the existence of the USA is inhibiting their progress to use the Paris treaty to accomplish their plan. Even the UN needs funds they are like a country club issuing assessments to its members. Why should all nations ignore the assessments of the Paris treaty? Because all the actions proposed have zero effect on climate and only serve to destroy wealth and freedom.
Russell above and Dave below, you are correct. The United Nations is out of place and out of time. Like the League of Nations, attractive as roadkill. The UN is grasping for relevance. Why? Funds.
M-O-N-E-Y.
As much as the Commie – Socialists hate money, they’ll do anything for it. A-N-Y-T-H-A-N-G !
No Useless Nations were standing in the way of the New World Order(NWO)all under the UN we wont allow for open borders and the North American(Soviet)Union we dont want to be part of any World Community and we dont want or need the UN go just move to Moscow and rule on your own
Climate change is a false premise for regulating or taxing carbon dioxide emissions. Political or business leaders who advocate unwarranted taxes and regulations on fossil fuels will be seen as fools or knaves. Climate change is NOT caused by human fossil fuels use. There is no empirical evidence that fossil fuels use affects climate. Earth naturally recycles all carbon dioxide.
Fossil fuels emit only 3% of total CO2 emissions. All the ambient CO2 in the atmosphere is promptly converted in the oceans to calcite (limestone) and other carbonates, mostly through biological paths. CO2 + CaO => CaCO3. 99.84% of all carbon on earth is already sequestered as sediments in earth’s crust. The lithosphere is a massive hungry carbon sink that converts ambient CO2 to carbonate almost as soon as it is emitted.
The Paris Treaty is now estimated to cost more than $100 trillion — $15,000 per human being. A colossal mistake. About humanity’s cumulative savings over recorded history. And will not affect climate at all. A modern coal power plant emits few air effluents except water vapor and carbon dioxide. Coal remains the lowest cost and most reliable source of electric energy, along with natural gas.
Coal & gas dominate electric energy generation because they are cheap and reliable. Without the CO2-driven global-warming boogeyman, wind and solar power will be relegated to the niches they deserve. Using renewable energy is like paying first-class airfare to fly standby.
I once paid for standby and ended up in first class.
Renewables should be an option for those willing to buy it, without forcing subsidies from the rest of us.
Live off the grid. Way off the grid, please!
An inconvenient truth for the UN…..democracy. Americans would never cede self determination to One World government.
The UN is a nag. Ugh!
An immigrant from the third world was asked what he thought was noticeably different about his new country. He said ” You guys stand in line “. Where he came from, we’d be considered losers.
Could this be why 1/2 the member countries of the UN believe that we’ll send them money as compensation for climate change? We’re suckers?
Some of us, maybe, but luckily, not enough to make it policy.
Obama threw them a sack of greenbacks on his way out. Make it last, United Nations.
NO
The American voter has partially obstructed
the UN’s criminality.
