U.N. chief Antonio Guterres warned Sunday that climate-related devastation is striking the planet on a weekly basis and global action must be undertaken immediately with U.N. agencies in the lead or else the Earth is doomed.
“We are here because the world is facing a grave climate emergency,” Guterres told a two-day Abu Dhabi climate meeting ahead of a Climate Action Summit in New York in September.
“Climate disruption is happening now… It is progressing even faster than the world’s top scientists have predicted,” the UN secretary general said. “It is outpacing our efforts to address it. Climate change is running faster than we are.
“Every week brings new climate-related devastation… floods, drought, heat waves, wildfires and super storms.”
Guterres warned the situation would only deteriorate unless “we act now with ambition and urgency,” and called for greater carbon taxes, an end to building power plants, and a change in the way the world does business.
The U.N. chief held out hope in the Paris Agreement to force nations to accede to climate action as directed.
The climate emergency is evolving faster than predicted. We must accelerate our response, with ambition and urgency. This is the battle for our lives. And it’s a battle we can and must win. https://t.co/CQstT1p2ri #ClimateAction

“But we know that even if the promises of Paris are fully met, we still face at least a three-degree temperature rise by the end of the century — a catastrophe for life as we know it,” Guterres said.
This is not the first warning of impending global climate catastrophe issued by the U.N.
Last year the global body called for a climate treaty “on steroids” – stronger, more all-encompassing and more legally binding than the ailing Paris accord.
That came after U.S. President Donald Trump announced in June 2017 the United States would withdraw from the agreement because of the harm it would cause to the economy.
Trump said the U.S. would immediately “cease all implementation of the non-binding Paris Accord and the draconian financial and economic burdens the agreement imposes on our country.”
Complying with the agreement could have cost the U.S. “as much as 2.7 million lost jobs by 2025 according to the National Economic Research Associates,” Trump said. “This includes 440,000 fewer manufacturing jobs.”
Now the U.N. is again calling for a global effort as well as ramping up the possible amounts of money involved, with some critics saying $300 billion will be needed annually by 2030 to help the U.N. deal with alleged climate-related disasters.

Who writes the climate doomsayers marketing plan ? Seems like every spring they come up with a new big scary they can feed MSM . What is it a little secret society that gets together around Al Gore ‘s pool to whip up the slogan dejour ?
Then Hollywood chimps and bad country and western performers spew it for the campaign season .
The earth has survived much worse and will do again .

The UN has another agenda. To bankrupt first world countries while at the same time allowing developing countries free range to pollute and generally ignore its rules.
Climate change happens, it is part of a natural cycle. It is presumptuous on man’s part to think that we change it materially. Carbon dioxide levels are historically very low and the minor increase of late is just that – minor! It is leading to re-afforestation and reduction in desertification. Satellite observations confirm these facts.
The incidence of bad weather events has decreased, not risen. Sea levels have not risen dramatically or Al Gore’s beach property would be under water.
I think the UN has outlived any usefulness it may once have had and should be dismantled, as it is counterproductive in almost every area of its involvement.
Does the UN chief cite any actual examples where the “climate emergency” has made itself evident. I look around and see weather events, but nothing really out of the ordinary on a yearly scale. it gets warm/hot in summer and cool/cold in winter and these fluctuations are attended by other events, all part of the weather cycle. What’s the emergency?
We live on the driest continent in the world in Australia, yet the Climate Crazies are always rattling on about the change as if we had never had greatly varied weather before. Utter rubbish! One of our outstanding early 20th century poets, Dorothea McKellar wrote of our nation in her poem “Our Country” as a land of ‘droughts and flooding rains’. That is a truism today. The rubbish we are constantly fed is about control, not weather. They show totally ignorance of history every time they speak, Australia had a huge drought on and off for years in very late 19th century through to the 1920’s. Early to mid 1950’s, horrendous floods, 1960’s prolonged drought and it goes on and on. Even Captain Arthur Philip penned in his diary about fierce heat and drought after the First Fleet arrived here in 1788. Pity none of the experts can read.

Well, if reducing CO2 emissions is critical, seems like the world should look at the U.S as an example. As of last year, our CO2 emissions were the lowest they had been since 1992. Rather than relying on government mandates & international treaties, the U.S has reduced it’s CO2 more than any other industrialized nation through market forces. What a concept. Scoreboard…
Let’s not forget that this fellow is a die-hard Socialist.
Climate disruption is so bad, it’s afflicting many with Climate Madness, a malady that destroys the ability to think rationally.
