CCD Editor’s note: The new NSS is a copiously written document that has some good nuggets buried inside it as uncovered by Mr. Pollak.
The mainstream media reported Sunday and Monday that President Donald Trump’s new National Security Strategy (NSS) would remove climate change from a list of threats to national security.
But the document, released Monday, does more than that. It identifies efforts to push a climate change agenda as a potential threat to national security.
The NSS states (emphasis added):
Climate policies will continue to shape the global energy system. U.S. leadership is indispensable to countering an anti-growth energy agenda that is detrimental to U.S. economic and energy security interests.
Given future global energy demand, much of the developing world will require fossil fuels, as well as other forms of energy, to power their economies and lift their people out of poverty.
The United States will continue to advance an approach that balances energy security, economic development, and environmental protection.
The United States will remain a global leader in reducing traditional pollution, as well as greenhouse gases while expanding our economy.
This achievement, which can serve as a model to other countries, flows from innovation, technology breakthroughs, and energy efficiency gains, not from onerous regulation.
Note that the NSS does not take a position on the scientific debate about whether climate change is happening, what its causes are, and what can be done about it.
Rather, it simply notes that some of the efforts to stop climate change are harmful to the United States.
The implication is that shutting down key energy sources, such as coal and oil, reduces American economic growth while also leaving the U.S. vulnerable to disruptions in energy supply.
As a remedy, the NSS proposes a balanced approach — “energy security, economic development, and environmental protection,” in that order.
It does not reject doing what may be necessary to protect the planet, or to mitigate impacts that may arise from a changing climate. But it insists that those measures must not be at the expense of America’s national security or economic health.
So the NSS does more than drop the Obama administration’s attempt to graft environmentalism onto national defense. It suggests that radical environmentalism is actually a national security threat.
In that sense, Trump’s new policy is even more audacious than his critics suggest.

One of the origional founders of Greenpeace quit becuase they became too radical and looking for big headlines Patrick Moore has dumped Greenpeace who pushes for a ban on Chlorine used to make drinking water safer and of course climbing up on buildings bridges Mt Rushmore and the Nazca Plains to spoil the view with their stupid messages
Patrick Moore was not one of the founders of Greenpeace…he was part of a group that eventually founded Greenpeace…
“….Patrick Moore often misrepresents himself in the media as an environmental “expert” or even an “environmentalist,” while offering anti-environmental opinions on a wide range of issues and taking a distinctly anti-environmental stance. He also exploits long-gone ties with Greenpeace to sell himself as a speaker and pro-corporate spokesperson, usually taking positions that Greenpeace opposes.
While it is true that Patrick Moore was a member of Greenpeace in the 1970s, in 1986 he abruptly turned his back on the very issues he once passionately defended. He claims he “saw the light” but what Moore really saw was an opportunity for financial gain. Since then he has gone from defender of the planet to a paid representative of corporate polluters.
Patrick Moore promotes such anti-environmental positions as clearcut logging, nuclear power, farmed salmon, PVC (vinyl) production, genetically engineered crops, and mining. Clients for his consulting services are a veritable Who’s Who of companies that Greenpeace has exposed for environmental misdeeds, including Monsanto, Weyerhaeuser, and BHP Minerals…..”

The HAND WRINGING, Sky is Falling Rabid Right proclaiming that Fighting Global Warming will destroy the economy….is ridiculous….
Transitioning away from KILLER COAL ELECTRIC GENERATION MONOPOLY has had NOTHING BUT GOOD effects on the economy….
TEXAS is the BIG winner….SOLAR, WIND & Nat.Gas have dropped electric rates by double digits in all those competitive Markets, have created thousands of high paying jobs, stimulated Capitalist Investment in related industries….cut pollution and TOXIC WASTE DUMPING of HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF GALLONS of COAL ASH….
THAT IS TOXIC WASTE which would other wise be LEACHING into our ground water for drinking & irrigation…..LEAKING into our Lakes, rivers and Creeks.
If the climate change alarmists have their way the US economy would contract and weaken. This is definitely a security risk.
If anyone thinks that energy isn’t a major factor in security consider one of the main reasons Japan attacked the United States. In response to their invasion of China we cut off one of their major supplies of oil. They estimated they only had enough for 18 months. Their plan was to disable the US pacific fleet in order to have free access to resources. Things don’t always go as planned.
The Left wanted to pay for their agenda with carbon taxes, definitely a wet blanket on the economy.
Trump will pay for his agenda the old fashioned way. Earn it.
It’s nice to see a world leader actually call BS on the globalization
agenda fronted by the fake climate crisis . Canada’s milk toast
Prime Minister runs around lecturing super powers and confusing trade deals as a forum for preachy politically correct mush balls .
Gender bender fluff that will do nothing to improve the Canadian
economy but shows how weak leadership is .
Congrats to President Trump and his team . Even the FBI could not take him out despite senior managements planned effort to do so .
Enviromentalist just another word for Idiot
