The Weather Channel worked with meteorologists to find a day with no winter storms to unveil its latest global warming campaign, called the “United States of Climate Change.”
“It’s urgent in the time we live in because people across the U.S. are quietly living the impacts of climate change and the general public is searching for credible information on what is (but shouldn’t be) a contentious subject,” Greg Gilderman, Weather.com editor-in-chief, told Axios.
For an entire 24 hours, the Weather Channel’s website will have a banner reading, “THERE IS NO CLIMATE CHANGE DEBATE.” The Weather Channel wants to highlight “climate” stories from all 50 states.
But Gilderman said the Weather Channel wanted to find a period with no winter storm before they launched their latest global warming campaign.
“As for why today?” Gilderman said. “We asked our meteorologists to let us know when there’d be a day when there wasn’t a winter storm or one likely in the next few days, and today was our window to highlight this important issue.”
It’s a series that “will focus on telling stories” on how global warming is allegedly impacting the everyday lives of Americans Weather.com editorial staff wrote on their website. “This project will not debate the science of climate change,” reads the Weather Channel’s website, which is actually a completely separate entity from the Weather Channel TV station.
“We’re going to see how individuals, communities, and businesses are responding to the changes that are already happening in America, and how they’re preparing for the changes that have yet to occur,” reads the site.
This is not the first time Weather.com, which is owned by IBM, has focused their website on global warming.
The Weather Channel completely revamped the front page of its website in June when President Donald Trump announced the U.S. would withdraw from the Paris climate accord. Then too, the Weather Channel featured its “The United States of Climate Change” series, which first launched in April 2017.
In 2016, the Weather Channel released a video that featured children asking their parents about global warming.
