Solar power fails every day from sunset to sunrise as well as during rain, hail, snow, or dust storms.
No matter how much land we smother in subsidized solar panels, they will still fail.
Wind power fails often and unpredictably, sometimes for days, especially in quiet cold winter weather.
It also shuts down during cyclones, heavy winds, or icy conditions.
No matter how many hills we uglify with their subsidized roads, transmission lines, and bird-slicers, they will still fail.
No one notices when green energy fails (as it often does) because coal, gas, and hydro keep the lights and heaters on, trains running, petrol pumping, batteries charging and dairies, abattoirs, and hospitals operating.
But everyone noticed when hydrogen coolant exploded in one unit of the Callide coal-fired power station in Queensland recently.
This caused a major state blackout for 1.5 hours. Power restoration started within 15 minutes mainly from quick-start gas plus a bit of hydro.
Hyped energy “solutions” to intermittent green energy include big batteries, Snowy 2 pumped hydro, and hydrogen.
These all CONSUME MORE ENERGY than they can produce, and more green fashion accessories like electric cars will quickly suck the whole electricity network dry.
This foolish western fad for green energy is supposed to prevent global warming. There is ZERO threat of global warming – the real threat to life on Earth is the bitter cold of the next ice age (which is due soon).
To cope with that real climate crisis, humanity will need hydrocarbons and nuclear power, as well as real heated greenhouses fertilized with carbon dioxide, and herds of hardy cattle (or reindeer).
All of these essentials are being attacked by foolish green children having climate nightmares because of global warming scare stories spread by power-hungry schemers of yesterday’s generation (who seek to depopulate and rule the world).
In the long history of Earth, there have been dozens of icy extinctions, but no global warming crises.
Those preparing for an imaginary global warming emergency are destined to follow the mammoths and the Neanderthals to an icy extinction.
Viv Forbes has science and financial qualifications and long business experience and no vested interests in hydrocarbon fuels except as a consumer.
I keep reminding myself that common sense isn’t common any longer.
Today, we have declining amounts of electricity being generated because large capacity coal power stations are closing. In their place, we are installing a lot of renewable (subsidised) generating equipment that does not work 24/7 and does not produce as much electricity as the power plants that are being closed. Together, this means we will have less available electricity while we have a growing population and the prospect of electric cars needing to be recharged most likely at night, when renewables don’t operate. And, we don’t have a grid to accommodate night-time charging of cars from private homes, but that’s a separate issue.
Surely there’s a lot more people than just me who can see the problem here?
In case I’ve missed something, would someone please let me know?
I was looking at the AEMO site about an hour ago. What happened at or about 1800hrs on 14 June to cause price spikes in the system? Five minute prices up over $14,000 /MW. Another explosion?
From the article, “No one notices when green energy fails (as it often does) because coal, gas, and hydro keep the lights and heaters on, trains running, petrol pumping, batteries charging and dairies, abattoirs, and hospitals operating.” Australia has not set a goal of net zero. Let’s hope that remains true. Without back fossil fuel power plants, the frequent failure of green energy would translate to frequent power outages. Hydro power is good but there is not enough of it.
Wind & Solar Power is a total waste harmful to Birds and Bats, and those Wind Turbines,Solar Panels are a total eyesore and waste way too many acres that could be used to grow Crops/Livestock and be Wildlife Areas
A new carbon scare genre has arrived. It is common knowledge, or it should be, that increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide increases the growth of plants.
Well, that means weeds will grow faster and become more toxic, such as with famine weed we are told.
For those unfamiliar with botanical articles, famine weed does not refer to Joe Biden, although I can understand how one might think it does. It is an opportunistic plant of warm, disturbed spaces, so a solar farm would be an ideal place for it.
While Australia sits idle without power, famine weed and its ilk can power away on land that once was for farms that produced something useful.
