There haven’t been any sunspots for the last 44 days, and some scientists believe that the sun is entering a period called a “deep solar minimum,” with unpredictable but potentially devastating effects.
But don’t worry: even if we don’t know what’s going to happen over the next couple of years, it is still “settled science” (ask Al Gore if you doubt this) that in a century, the “Earth’s temperature” will rise and cause catastrophe.
Meanwhile, in the short run, the science isn’t looking very settled. The New York Post reprints a story from the U.K. Sun:
The sun might soon batter us with a shower of deep space rays so intense, it could cause part of our atmosphere to collapse.
Space scientists reckon we are on the verge of a “deep solar minimum,” which is a period of low activity.
Unlike the name suggests, this could cause an outer layer of the atmosphere called the thermosphere to contract – and it’s not entirely clear what the effects of this could be on our planet.
Professor Yvonne Elsworth at the University of Birmingham in England believes that a “fundamental change in the nature of the [sun’s magnetic] dynamo may be in progress.”
It’s backed up by NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory’s daily snaps, which have shown a spotless sun for 44 days in a row.
This led scientists to believe that it’s nearing a tumultuous period not seen since 2008.
There is too much “may” and “might” floating around here for me to be 100% confident that the atmosphere will “collapse.”

WHAT?!!!
The sun affects our climate?!!!
Who Knew?!!!
Hold on here… Man cannot affect the sun, can he?
Maybe the SUN should be factored in to climate models… Just a tiny little, of course…
Oh, my head hurts!
Western governments are in a financial corner. Interest on debt is taking money away from basic services. Lefties have tried to convince voters that carbon taxes will save us from our sins and hell on Earth. One-World government would negate the competitive disadvantages by taxing everyone and everything to a crawl. The whole idea runs against the human spirit.
The alternatives to carbon taxes are just as unattractive. Inflate the economy artificially to reduce the debt to GDP ratio and / or download the problem to net worth and property taxes. Ugh! Robin Hood is getting old and his job is getting tougher.
Now if they could just get all those natural climate variables to stop changing the scary CO2 promoters would be out in the open .
What scientific organization states or can back up claims that
humans are capable of changing the earths temperature to some arbitrary number by adjusting the CO2 that isn’t naturally occurring ? That in itself should put an end to the fallacy that humans have taken over Mother Natures job .
Why would “Green ” capitalists be opposed to the greening earth
CO2 contributes to ? The common thread …money .
Governments have reached a point of diminishing returns in personal income taxes , and even value added taxes . What are they going to do when Boomers stop spending and working ? Tax the remaining things people need to maintain a good quality of life .
Their tax base is going to fall off a cliff over the next 20 years .
People lucky to have a pension will earn approximately 30-40% less and spend 30% less . What is going to make up the shortfall because as we all witness government is a growth industry .
If a bunch of scientists need to be bought off to create a story so be it . Peanuts for a pot of gold .
IT ‘s a scam but the motives are obvious at least .
TA Da a carbon tax to “save the planet ” even though warming is a fabulous and fortunate thing .
There have been 44 sunspotless days so far this year.
It looks like that’s how the person got the fact wrong.
How deeply contemptleletive
Has GENIUS Heidi Cullen been appraised ?
Perhaps she would say that
GOBAL WARMING is caused by a
SOLAR MINIMUM !
Better yet
has incomparable GENIUS Heidi Cullen
ever contemplated that the earth js heated
ONLY
by the SUN !!
I am not sure what you mean by “There haven’t been any sunspots for the last 44 days…”. This statement is quite incorrect. We have had at least 4 sunspots since the beginning of June. One of them gave us an M flare on July 3rd.
Once you fix this factual error, I may share your article, until then, the entire piece is tainted by this inaccuracy.
