Scientists have discovered a miracle solution to the global warming problem.
Or so the Atlantic wants to persuade us:
A team of scientists from Harvard University and the company Carbon Engineering announced on Thursday that they have found a method to cheaply and directly pull carbon-dioxide pollution out of the atmosphere.
I applaud the sentiment of that recent Wall Street Journal commentary by Steven Hayward arguing that “Climate change has run its course.”
(Hayward’s line was that political scares go in five phases and that, with “global warming,” we’ve reached the final one: “prolonged limbo—a twilight realm of lesser attention or spasmodic recurrences of interest” — aka overwhelming boredom).
But it seems to me that the damage is already done.
If we’ve reached the stage where scientists propose an insane and eye-watering expensive scheme to suck a beneficial, plant-feeding trace gas out of the atmosphere and the response is not, “Wait! Why is that necessary???” but rather, “Sounds great! When can we start?” then the world has become a madhouse and may be beyond salvation.

If the climate change establishment believed in this “miracle solution,” it would be met with hostility. This has happened before. About ten years ago there was a proposal to fight global warming by releasing certain chemicals in the upper atmosphere. Before there was any consideration of the possible merits, the hostile reaction shot it down.
Remember, the real motivation of this movement isn’t about the climate. It is about using climate change to force de-industrialization, provide an excuse for new taxes, expand the power of government, and transfer wealth to the developing nations. All of this depends on forcing a drastic reduction of fossil fuel use. If an alternate solution to solve the “problem” is found, these hidden agendas don’t have a chance. For instance, without making energy scarce and expensive they won’t be able to of force de-industrialization.
Of course it is not desirable to pull carbon dioxide out of the air. It is very clear that CO2 is not impacting the earth’s temperature. In going from 350 ppm to 400 ppm the earth has been greening. Many operators of nurseries elevate the carbon dioxide to around 1600 to 1800 ppm. This implies that we are still below the ideal concentration.
Andre said something I’ve believed all along. A tree in the yard beats anything the green energy fraudsters have been pushing. An organic solar panel. Shade. No “carbon footprint” in its production, if that’s your concern. Absorb your CO2 emissions at the source.
If you’re worried about warming, it really starts locally. New suburbs should include transplanted trees.
The Earth’s carbon cycle is an elegant design and will carry on perfectly well without carbon taxes.
However, western socialism is doomed without them.
If you remove all the CO2 (which is NOT a pollutant) from the atmosphere, you will kill all the plant life. If you kill all the plant life, you will kill all the animals that feed on the plants. If you kill all the plant-eating animals, you will kill all the flesh-eating animals (including people). Ergo, when you remove all the CO2 from the atmosphere, Earth will become a barren lifeless planet much like Mars. These Harvard “scientists” are trying to kill us all.

This is either the best put-on article or the very dumbest I have ever read.The total amount of energy required to make this happen would put a put a wind turbine in every backyard. Oh, it’s already there, a tree.
Every now and again over the years, someone has announced a significant miracle solution to something. In at least a few cases, the “miracle solution” turned out to be nothing other than an investment scam. Investors invested money for development and for setting up mass production. The individuals hyping the solution simply took the money and nothing more ever happened. This scheme has some of the indicators of such an operation.
If the only victims of this scam are going to be the dopes who believe in AGW,
then I’m all for its advancement.

I thought the same about the followers of Ehrlich. If the only ones who chose to follow his advice were Socialists, then where was the harm ? However, this global warming scam has revealed the gullibility of our youngsters, and will lead to more of the same.
