The Italian army is helping clear the snow from Rome’s streets after the first snow in six years covered the city Monday morning, according to The Local.
The snowfall, as much as two inches in certain areas, closed schools and attractions and delayed air, road and rail transport throughout the city. Rome’s metro was the only form of transportation not affected.

The snow came with a cold snap dubbed the “the beast from the east.” Freezing winds in Siberia have blown across Europe causing drastic drops in temperature. In Rome, temperatures dropped to between 17 to 25 degrees Fahrenheit. The average for Rome in February is between 38 and 55 degrees Fahrenheit, CNN reports.

The cold weather is expected to break Thursday, and Rome is not forecasted to receive any more snow.
