(h/t amirlach) An independent investigation by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) revealed that the federal government is giving preferential treatment to foreign oil.
The Liberals imposed strict upstream and downstream GHG considerations on prospective energy projects seeking approval from the federal government, and those changes spurred the cancellation of TransCanada’s Energy East pipeline.
The CTF filed a series of access-to-information requests with four separate federal ministries: Environment and Climate Change Canada, Transport Canada, Natural Resources Canada and Global Affairs Canada.
CTF asked the government:
“Please provide reports and analysis (final copy or last draft copy if the final is not available) on reviews related to any upstream or downstream impacts to greenhouse gas emissions from foreign oil imported to Canada. The time frame for this request is January 1, 2015, to December 21, 2017.”
Each one of those information requests returned the exact same response:
“After a thorough search, no records were found concerning this request.”
The federal government isn’t concerning itself with the 759,000 barrels of oil per day that Canada imports from foreign sources — a third of which were imports from OPEC member countries including Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates.
The CTF cited a 2014 report by the Canadian Energy Research Institute that noted how the now dead Energy East pipeline, would have contributed $7.6 billion in tax revenue across different levels of government in pipeline revenue alone.
The pipeline itself was a $15 billion private-sector investment that would have employed over 3,700 people during the construction phase.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau might be the Iranian mullahs’ best oil salesman.
Environment Minister Catherine McKenna should be making a commission on all the help she’s giving the dictatorship of Venezuela.
And Natural Resources Minister Jim Carr is working much harder for Saudi Aramco then he is for the province of Alberta.

Justin Trudeau’s father, Pierre, defined his useful idiots, MP’s, thus: ” fifty yards from Parliament Hill, they’re no longer honourable members. They’re nobodies”
A Canadian Prime Minister with a majority in the House of Commons has more power than an American president. Trudeau- the – younger can uncork Alberta and Saskatchewan’s oil . Free-flow to market would immediately reward producers with higher prices. Volume plus value would generate more tax income for Canada, but Trudeau doesn’t care about money.I doubt that he ever touches currency.
Liberal enviromentalists groups are full of Useful idiots groups like Friends of the Earth were founded by useful idiots and Greenpeace was taken over by radicals and the NRDC and EDF are all useful idiots
For liberals, “Social Justice” is whatever they say it is today. “Social Justice” is the excuse for every right they want to steal from common people as they drive towards socialist tyranny where a privileged few dictate the choices in our private lives.
Leftists have simply stolen the word “Justice”, and they place it in front of any outrageous demand they please, hoping that people will dare not question “Justice”. The practice is carefully calculated to stifle debate, implying that anyone who would question their assertions is therefore “anti-justice”. This is simply a continuation in a pattern of language theft by the left. Just like “Justice”, who can disagree with words like “Peace”, “Healthy”, or phrases like “for the children”. The left, with great help from their friends in the media and Hollywood, has set themselves up as the sole arbiters of our common language. There can be no debate once the left claims a word as their own.
People fall for the sizzle, eat bologna. Which explains Trudeau’s election and incompetence.
Canadian energy producers are held to a higher standard than foreign suppliers. We end up supporting OPEC. Same goes for merchandise. We end up buying from third world sweatshops. Why? Because Canadians are like the three monkeys: hear no evil, see no evil , speak no evil. Hypocrisy.
They have stolen a lot more than most people realise. Canada has a system of “equalization” payments designed to transfer wealth from richer provinces to ensure a standard of government services.
Alberta has paid the most, over 250 Billion since 1950. Mainly due to oil and gas. The eastern provinces have been on the receiving end of this. Always resentful of success they have systematically blocked Alberta’s access to global markets by blocking pipelines. They knowingly prefer to buy OPEC oil. Almost 30 Billion worth a year.
Money that leaves Canada never to return. If they bought Canadian oil instead, they would get Billions more in transfer payments, Carbon Taxes as well as the huge amount of spin off manufacturing in Ontario and Quebec.
The same Mayors who block Alberta Pipe Lines happily allow OPEC oil to flow into their city’s. While they use their own pipelines to dump their untreated raw sewage into the Great Lakes and the Oceans. Social Justice and environmental stewardship in action.

Is it any wonder many Oil and support Company’s are looking to move to the US? https://globalnews.ca/news/3997351/canadian-oil-rigs-moving-to-texas/
This sums it up nicely.
“What’s happening in the U.S.? They’re lowering taxes, they’re building pipelines and they’re starting to export oil,” he said.
In Canada, he added, “we’ve raised taxes, we’re increasing costs because of labour laws that are changing, we aren’t building pipelines and we can’t get federal or provincial governments to do anything to help us.”
Ontario was once a dependable source of profits that fed the equalization program. Manufacturers loved Ontario but they got fleeced by the Socialists. Now we siphon off Alberta, itself under demolition by the environmentalists. Trudeau presides over this sad situation. His tolerance of pipeline obstructionists makes him complicit in our economic death spiral.
We had a competent economist as Prime Minister, Stephen Harper. The media put him out of office, swooning over Bobble Head Justin and Climate Barbie.
It will be fun watching the Canadian media spin this mess come election time.
Please don’t capitalize barbie. Capitalization shows respect and nobody respects that blonde bimbo.
Point taken. Give me credit for not using her name and title.
