With all due respect to the profession of mainstream journalism, there is no such thing as rapid, catastrophic “global warming.”
In fact, there are vast land and sea areas that are not warming, which seriously counters publicized statements that the world is suffering from a “global” climate condition.
And claims of rapid, catastrophic “global” warming are simply fictional derivatives of imagination.
For example, the Southern Hemisphere’s and tropical-latitude oceans currently have sea temperature anomaly measurements that are essentially the same as those found during the period of 1997-1999, some 20+ years ago.
And a critical example of a large landmass without significant warming is the contiguous landmass of the lower 48 U.S. states.
The above chart (click on to enlarge) is a plot of average U.S temperature anomalies and one does not need to be a climate scientist to discern from the graph that the fear-mongering about rapid, dangerous, and catastrophic warming is empirical nonsense.
Putting some flesh on the empirical science bones, the chart is plotted from the datasets produced by the world’s only state-of-the-art climate/weather USCRN measurement system with 140 station sites all across the contiguous U.S.
Notice that since the USCRN sites went online January 2005, over the last 14+ years the average U.S. temperature has had periods of both cooling and warming.
And when comparing the latest August 2019 12-month average (green circle) and the 8-month average (yellow star) with their respective beginning averages in 2005, it’s clear that the current averages are lower.
Also, as the chart’s 6th degree fitted trend line (black) indicates, the most recent warming has turned towards a cooling direction.
Based on these facts, it can be fairly surmised that the climate doomsday cult prediction of a global warming inferno is without empirical evidence, and it can justly be called anti-scientific as well.
With a little greater specificity, the claim that human CO2 emissions have produced a global “tipping point” with runaway warming is demonstrably false.
For the record, including 2005, there have been 441 gigatonnes of CO2 emitted into the atmosphere through 2018, which represents an overall increase of 25%.
But where’s the predicted rapid and dangerous “global” warming from all these emissions? Not in the U.S. Not in the immense waters of the Southern Hemisphere.
And amazingly, not in a lot of other places: Ireland, China, Greenland, England, Finland, North Atlantic, Sweden, France, Central Europe, Japan, and other various countries.
In summary, apparently for politicians, celebrities, “journalists” and teenagers, science and empirical evidence are no longer to be taken seriously.
Thus fossil fuels and their resulting emissions have become convenient scapegoats, nothing more. And wildly speculative climate change predictions are, unfortunately, tipping-point catnip for the hysterical and feebleminded.
Note: As occurs everywhere, during that 2005-2019 timespan there were quite a few hot months in the U.S.; but the same can be said about cold months.
When all is said and done, the hot-period spans are canceled out by the cooler spans, which is what the ‘average’ natural climate cycle does.
There has been regional warming and regional cooling as the various regional climates continue to change, and climate expert predictions have failed to account for the non-consistent attributes of climate change.

All of the media blitz and the illegal acts in Washington D.C. were to support action at the UN climate summit which started this last Monday. At the summit nations were supposed to make new commitments beyond what they agreed to in the Paris Treaty. Unless it is a well kept secret, not a single nation has done so.
I have a simple question for the AGW alarmists.
Get a bucket of dry ice[solidified CO2]; put your bottle of beer or pop into it; then observe what happens.
Does the beer get colder?—-
Yes, and quicker than sitting on the picnic table.
The CO2 being a radiative gas, sublimates as it acts as a coolant.
The beer doesn’t get hotter from “back radiation” of “trapped heat”.
The same thing happens in our atmosphere. The CO2 absorbs IR; expands; and rises. CO2 is a coolant.

The individual molecules in a gas don’t expand. The distance between all molecules increases as temperature increases. That’s what makes a gas lighter. If CO2 is evenly distributed (yes), then there is no pocket of CO2 that will warm faster than the surrounding gas. It’s the water ,humidity, in our atmosphere, changing states with lapse rate, that is the real refrigerant that cools the Earth. CO2 is along for the ride, like nitrogen and oxygen.
Water has a heat of vapourization; CO2 has a heat of sublimation;
Is it not true that the expanding CO2 is aiding convection? thus more than “along for the ride”
Where on Earth do we find dry ice?Atmospheric CO2 is a minor factor, .04%. The stacks at Nanticoke GS were 700′ tall for a reason. If CO2 behaves as you say, it alone wasn’t enough to carry the flue gas to an altitude where sulfur dioxide would disperse.
Everyone knows that heat (energy) moves toward lower potential, warm to cold. Therefore, CO2 doesn’t reflect heat back to Earth. Ergo, no greenhouse effect.

I am horrified because of two things. The terrible cooling ,which I hate , because I would prefer the glorious heat of my pagan god, the Sun.

This scares the crap out of the promoters so they want to distance them selves by claiming the science is settled when it hasn’t even been debated . Let’s state the situation in a different way to make obvious how silly human-caused global warming is . . .
The whole premise of global warming is that carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere are causing increased heat trapping and causing an enhanced global greenhouse effect. Almost seems plausible till you stop to realize that it is the oceans and not the atmospheric envelope that drives the climate.
This being the case, the global warming scenarios of which we are supposed to be frightened is just as ridiculous as a child opening the refrigerator to cool his house on a hot day instead of using the air conditioner. It’s a preposterous claim.
In reply to Dave and Boxorox, everyone should consider that Earth has the ability to heal. It is currently healing from an asteroid strike that caused the last ice age. The atmosphere was .4% CO2 (4000ppm) when that asteroid struck. Dinosaurs roamed northern Canada at the time. Today’s .04 %(410 ppm) is kinda lame by comparison.
With all crazy talk around at the moment, I wonder does anyone ever stop and think how we handle daily temperature fluctuations. Seriously here on the Gold Coast this month we had a day where the temperature varied over 20 degrees C. No one seemed to notice apart from putting on a light top. Yet there is global hysteria onver 2 degrees. Think every one should get a grip on reality!
Without the campaign from the IPCC, I wouldn’t have known about global warming. There’s nothing I’ve seen in my 64 years that confirms the alarmists’ headlines. I became “climate change woke” when Komrad Bob Rae gave Ontario Hydro to Maurice Strong. I smelled the BS immediately , started reading.
The media relentlessly tells me that the Earth is about to boil, but I don’t sense any urgency, at all.
Why are so many people vulnerable to this confidence scam? Science is boring, but imminent climate catastrophe is hot?
Well, when you have the government and MSM promoting doom (which the CBC is determined to do these days), it’s not very surprising that pre-occupied and incurious people tend to accept the bumpf. The damage to students and educational institutions that alarms me. I’m afraid it will be long-lasting.
Science has also been seriously damaged and it will take decades if not over a 100 years to recover. I was a serious science student in the 1970’s and I remember what science use to be like. The corruption of science is very disturbing.
Don’t be too sure about it taking 100 years to get back to sanity. Two days ago a CBC website article re. Greta Thunberg received a majority of negative comments ( some soon disabled for no obvious reason ). Greta was being dissed more often than praised. That’s not the way it used to be as the CBC leans pretty heavily to the left. Commenters are waking up.
