Self-driving cars. The government keeps jamming them down our throats by providing tax subsidies and other perks to companies like Tesla.
They cause all sorts of problems. People are sleeping in them. They stink on ice. And, a new poll shows that most do not want them.
They are not interested in cars that drive you from Harrisburg, PA, to Topeka, KS, while you wolf down Tasty Kakes and Yuengling beer with both hands on your food and drink and your eyes watching SportsCenter.
More Americans simply want technology that can accurately predict the weather.
A YouGov poll released Thursday shows that 68 percent of Americans do not want 5G technology if it means having worse weather forecasts.
The poll, taken on Sep 24, 2019, of 2,805 U.S. adults, asked:
“5G technology (the next generation of cell service technology after 4G) could be an important factor in allowing self-driving cars to become accessible. However, 5G technology could also severely interfere with accurate weather forecasting. Would you rather have self-driving cars or accurate weather forecasts?”
Just 16 percent of Americans wanted self-driving cars.

This poll comes as a California patrol car had to stop a high-speed chase this week due to his Tesla’s car battery running low, showing these vehicles are pretty inefficient in other areas as well.
via USA Today:
The East Bay Times reported that the officer was driving a Tesla Model S during a high-speed chase when he noticed that it was running low on juice. The policeman radioed in to dispatch to say he may need backup if the electric car runs out of power.
“I am down to 6 miles of battery on the Tesla, so I may lose it here in a sec,” the officer, identified as Jesse Hartman, reportedly said. “If someone else is able, can they maneuver into the No. 1 spot?”
The police eventually called off the chase after the assailant began driving recklessly through thickening traffic, according to the report. The car was later discovered abandoned in San Jose.
This poll also raises the question, if Americans don’t even trust our current technology to give accurate weather forecasts 10 days from now, why should we trust the Democrats on their global warming predictions 10 years from now?

Like i said take a cab or bus or get a relative to take you out . Maybe ok on country roads but you take one of those things into the completely wild unpredictability of city with drugged street walkers , bike lane kamikaze’s , three lane to one merge and open manhole covers . You’d be screwed blue and tattood in no time .
The cars hard drive would melt and you’d be were hurling from the stop start of on a bucking bronco .
But hey Id be happy for you if it works well .
I’m taking exception to your comment. I was dismissive of the self driving technology until I realized that it might allow me to maintain my independence and live out my final days on my farm.
It’s sad to see my neighbours surrender, sell and move to town.
So how does this work exactly ? The self driving car drives over a toddler.
Is Tesla or who ever made it responsible because their software was having a bad day . Self driving cars are for idiots who shouldn’t be driving to start with .
If you are that lame take a bloody cab .
Regarding the Tesla Police Car, I recall that the Los Angeles police department had purchased a fleet of 288 electric cars about 5 years ago, BMW i3 rather than Tesla. Local television investigative reporters found recently that the cars had hardly ever been used after being purchased, most having a bare few hundred miles while a couple had a thousand miles. These aren’t police cruisers, they’re meant for routine police work by civilians but were eschewed because of range. So they sit in the parking garage, continually charging while waiting for somebody to come use them.
