Oil Giants Now Pushing GOP To Pass A Carbon Tax

gas station shellBritish Petroleum and Shell are pouring $1 million each into a Republican-backed group advocating for a tax on carbon emissions to combat climate change, the Washington Examiner reported.

The oil giants are sending the funds to Americans for Carbon Dividends (ACD), a climate change advocacy group led by former GOP Secretaries of State James Baker III and George Shultz. Former GOP Rep. Ryan Costello of Pennsylvania serves as ACD’s executive director.

“The additional members who contributed show we are continuing to increase our momentum in support of the plan,” Costello told the Washington Examiner. “The polling clearly reflects Republican voters want the Republican Party to lean in with a proactive bipartisan solution to reduce carbon emissions.”

Fellow oil giants ConocoPhillips and ExxonMobil have already promised to donate $3 million to ACD between them. ConocoPhillips has pledged to donate $2 million over two years and ExxonMobil pledged to donate $1 million over two years.

Growing oil company support for a carbon tax coincides with the industry’s mounting investment in green technologies, such as wind, solar and biofuel.

The GOP carbon tax plan would make carbon-emitting companies, mainly oil, natural gas, and coal companies, pay a fixed rate per ton of carbon pumped into the atmosphere. The taxes collected would be distributed evenly as dividends to American citizens.

Republican backers promote the plan as a way to increase the cost of fossil fuels without outlawing them and make green technologies more competitive.

Critics of the plan say a carbon tax’s purported environmental and economic benefits are overstated. A carbon tax is likely to hurt overall economic performance and gross domestic product. The proposal would also lower tax revenue.

    Remember

These entities have only ONE ultimate goal

    PROFIT MAXIMIZATION

They obviously see a carbon tax as a means to
eventually supply less product and increase profit

President Trump has taken on a $7 trillion dollar climate fraud industry .
It would come as no surprise that the same sue /settle bandits that ran the EPA under full time golfer Obama were licking their chops when they knew a few oil companies were going to roll over rather easily .
the oil companies could hid from some shareholder descent by claiming it wasn’t their doing but you know they collect some kick back (collection service fee ) to do the governments dirt work and they could get any greens off their back .
Now the rest of the world is catching up to the massive fraud which was about to be pulled .

No doubt you are correct Al Shelton .I would wager money that some of these companies welcomed law suits so they could pretend to shareholders that it was out of their hands . Guaranteed the frivolous batch of “who knew ” lawsuits have been orchestrated as a sue / settle con -game . After all the oil companies don’t care if they are tax collectors. They get their little commission as collectors , it’s buried in the price so government hides it’s haul and the oil companies can play the “look what we have done to save the planet ” card .
Get the greenies off their backs and provide bankrupt governments another source of cash to blow . A win / win … except for the poor and middle class being whittled away at by climate con industry ,
Australians and the French have finally had enough , and President Trump has saved the USA from a massive socialist attack on the middle class and poor .
The oil companies campaigning for a carbon tax should be boycotted .

Maybe the major energy companies see this as an opportunity to raise prices and add on a nice piece of the “cost” for themselves, to their bottom line???

    WHAT?
This is the danger of propaganda. Eventually it convinces everybody that something about total nonsense is true. It’s like an invisible toxic gas.

“The polling clearly reflects Republican voters want the Republican Party to lean in with a proactive bipartisan solution to reduce carbon emissions.” This is the same type of polling that predicted those supporting climate change action would win in Australia. Even in Germany where there is a high level of concern over climate change, the majority oppose a tax on carbon dioxide emissions. It is certain that the vast majority of Republicans oppose it.

“The taxes collected would be distributed evenly as dividends to American citizens.”
Some of the bullcrap tax would be given “evenly” to many people who wouldn’t have paid it in carbon tax. Classic socialism, taking hard earned money from those that work and give it to those that won’t. Cortez and Sanders. Do what I do, if you can. Buy products and items manufactured in foreign countries.

PS: Shell just lost me as a loyal customer. I used their gas because of fuel quality, but now all they want to do is screw me around. I will try to find fuel that doesn’t include the corrosive ethanol. It is strongly suggested not to use in my KIA.
