I believe that satellite readings are where to look. No urban heat effect and no clouds. Ground-based stations are unevenly scattered and their surroundings change over the years.
I question the reporting of record high temperatures without information on how that heat was delivered. The variables are manifold.

Average earth temperature estimates based on such empirically thin data are virtually worthless yet are sold as solid science. That is just plain fraud .
Half the earth had virtually no readings into the 1990’s yet the public is fed a “warmest year “on record narrative . Science discredits itself when bought to produce a result . Satellite data shows virtually no warming in almost 20 years . Guess the media just missed that as part of their “the science is settled ” way of furthering
lying to the public .
