A collection of 85-year-old photographs reveals the “growth and stability” of the East Antarctic ice sheet. [emphasis, links added]
Per a new study, more than 2,200 historical aerial photos of a 2,000 km stretch of ice in East Antarctica have been recently uncovered.
The rare images reveal what the glaciers in this region looked like in 1937.
Interestingly, the photos show all these East Antarctic glaciers have remained stable, thickened, gained mass, and/or increased in elevation over the last 85 years, with much of the growth and mass gains occurring since 1985.
There has been no warming in this region since the 1950s. This suggests that “global warming” plays a minimal role in ice thickness changes.
“The terrestrial regions of the EAIS respond mainly to atmospheric forcing. Overall, there have been no significant trends in annual or seasonal mean air temperature in East Antarctica since the 1950s, and mean austral summer air temperature (December to February) from stations in all regions rarely exceeds 0 °C (Fig. 4C). This suggests that surface melting has played a minimal role in the documented ice thickness changes over time.”

Those who think (or believe) Antarctica is warming and ice is melting, they should go down and have a look at the place for themselves.
There are two reasons I say this. First – when climate change advocates tell us something dreadful is happening, it will relate to a remote place that we can’t check for ourselves… EG: Polar Bears are dying out. Antarctica is one place we can visit to see what is really happening.
Second reason – I have visited Antarctica and it was in summer (it’s not wise to go there in winter) when the average daily temperature was never above zero. Ocean temperature where we were was 1 degree C. Conditions were dead still. No wind and it was incredibly cold and I can talk about that being a long time snow skier…
Summed up – the ice in Antarctica is not melting to a point it will disappear, in the life times of my decendants for the next 20 generations and beyond.
Let us imagine for a moment that the ice was melting. In that case and beause there is so much ice down there, it would take around (or at least) one thousand years for that to occur.
Their trouble is they spend too much of their time looking at fake pictures from Greenpeace and the NRDC running around dressed up as Polar Bears
Global warming theory says that the poles will warm faster than the rest of the planet. Antarctica certainly refutes this.
