MSNBC anchor Andrea Mitchell and climate activist/Today show host Al Roker on Monday connected the California wildfires to “climate denial” and Obama-era regulatory rollbacks by the Trump administration.
Roker definitively blamed the fires out west on climate change.
Mitchell began by sounding like an activist, singling out changes by Trump as possible reasons for the blaze:
“The climate denial from the White House, which is reflected in a series of environmental changes and rollbacks from the Obama regulations has been so profound.”
After talking about the difference between forest fires and wildfires, Roker declared, “But these fires were in a sense almost urban fires that were happening because of climate change.”
This fall, NBC’s Today launched a “climate unit” for the morning show and Roker hyped the coming “crisis.” Mitchell herself is all-in on the alarmist terminology.
In April, she thanked a 2020 presidential candidate for making climate change a key part of his campaign.
Talking to Jay Inslee, she wondered, “What do we need to know about how America has been basically ignoring this, partly after the withdrawal from the Paris accords?”

I’ll repeat two things I have posted in the past. If President Trump’s policies had an impact on the climate or forests fires, these would have to be in place for a long time. He hasn’t been in office long enough. Second, under President Trump the US has reduced emissions more than other industrial nations. So why are they saying that President Trump is causing climate change impacts while making no mention of nations like China who are dramatically increasing emissions?
And what caused the extremely large 1889 Santiago Canyon Fire in SoCal? Some estimates show the fire burnt over 494,000 acres. And what about the 1932 Matilija Fire that burnt over 220,000 acres? Perhaps it was caused by people driving their SUVs back then. / sarc.

CBS LA: September 9, 2019 – Southern California Ocean Temperature Breaks 103-Year Record For September. Scientists recorded a temperature of 78.3 degrees Thursday in the water off Scripps Pier in La Jolla – the warmest September temperature recorded since 1916.
“So we’re right now having some of the warmest temperatures that we’ve ever seen in September for 103 years,” said Melissa Carter of the Scripps Institute of Oceanography.
Just last year, the waters off Scripps Pier reached the highest-ever recorded temperature – 79.5 degrees.
