U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven T. Mnuchin says Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg is in no position to give economic advice until she’s gone to college and come out with an economics degree.
At a press briefing at the World Economic Forum in the Swiss town of Davos, Mnuchin took a swipe at the 17-year-old environmental campaigner for her recommendation that both the public and private sectors should divest from fossil fuels.
When asked how that would affect the U.S. economic model, Mnuchin took a swipe at Thunberg.
“Is she the chief economist? Who is she? I’m confused,” he said. Then following a brief pause, he said it was “a joke.”
“After she goes and studies economics in college, she can come back and explain that to us,” he concluded.
Over the past year, Thunberg has taken issue with many aspects of U.S. policy, not least President Trump’s decision to pull the country out of the Paris accord to limit global warming.
Mnuchin insisted that U.S. policy has been misinterpreted and that Trump “absolutely believes” in a clean environment.
The U.S., Mnuchin said, has been a leader in reducing carbon emissions. “What the president objects to is the Paris agreement, because he thought it was an unfair agreement for the United States.”

Greta is merely a shield. Her elitist parents along with climate alarmist use Greta as a microphone for their ideas because to question a teenager would be looked at as cruel or abusive because “she’s just a little girl”. Let’s be honest, it worked very well.
I do believe that the future will have next to no fossil fuel use but such a leap forward takes time. I have seen massive advancements toward this goal being spearheaded by “big oil” in places demonized fiercely by the alarmist, no place more that Fort McMurray Alberta Canada. Come to think about it, oil companies act towards improving the environment much more efficiently that any eco group, they make less noise are a not featured in mainstream media as it doesn’t fit their narrative.
I believe the best way to make Greta go away and become a regular kid again is just to ignore her. If enough people do so, it may just happen.
Greta Thunberg is a demonstrable idiot in terms of her most basic and overtly false claims as to nothing being done, when trillions are being wasted on non cures to a non problem that simply enrich and empower insiders and activist organisations like hers at the actual expense of the futures of the rest of us, including our children.
An easy to expose liar on the clear facts of almost all the matters she pronounces upon as getting worse whe they are getting better in observed fact.
Anyone numerate can check this quickly for themselves. Why not simply call this delusional child out point by point, dismiss her on the facts, and shut down the radical anarchist operations based on this deliberate and overt deceit? It’s no better than religion or fascism as the basis for a civil society. And the basis of a global climate change protection racket any principled government could expose in a moment, IF they were not making a fortune in subsidies for their grateful crony renewable energy lobbyists and easy carbon taxes from it.
My patience is exhausted. Who will save us from this racket? No one in power has any motivation to do the right thing by he people they supposedly represent. Except Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin and President Xi and Modi, the last three where Greenpeace and Greta are most unwelcome, and the people using most of the World’s energy. You can adhere to your Malthusian beliefs and coexist with capitalists. You can rant against income equality until you’re blue in the face, but it won’t go away, ever. ‘Sustainable’ is a relatively new weasel word, same for eco – justice. People who think and talk like Jon are a small minority living in echo chambers. I won’t let them define prosperity for me.
Will backward thinkers like Steven Mnuchin ever realise that the capitalist economic model of continual growth is unsustainable or do we have to wait for them to die, which may be too late. Will they ever notice there’s a whole world full of more important things than the economy and its continued growth. Greta needs to go to study economics at university as much as he needs to go and study climate, science, the natural world and psychology before he comments on this topic.
In the short term what needs doing will negatively effect economies and that may result in some political figures losing their jobs due to the public’s inability to see the long-term (as well as theirs) but if these figures genuinely believe that continued economic growth is more important than the survival of our species and all the natural world, can we apply to have them removed because whatever the truth on climate change they are not fit for office and need to go back to uni.

You need to update yourself. If you (simply) go out to the U.S EPA website, you can get all the statistics on U.S performance on emissions. Whether it’s criteria pollutants or GHG output, the U.S has BLOWN AWAY every industrialized country on the planet with it’s environmental performance. Just FACT. So, how was that accomplished? Through government fiat & treaties? No, it was achieved through a FREE MARKET where cleaner burning natural gas (primarily) is replacing coal in power generation. Scoreboard! As to climate science, I WELCOME an honest, thoughtful debate on AGW instead of the ongoing political & media “Blitz of Doom.” Instead of criticizing the U.S for it’s withdrawal from an ineffective Paris Climate Accord, perhaps folks should be looking at RESULTS and a more productive path forward…

Humans have very little they can do to change this. It is bigger than ppm levels of CO2.
