Michael Mann, arguably the world’s no. 1 climate alarmist, writes Wednesday that he is “watching climate change in action” while on holiday in Australia.
In a Guardian essay titled “Australia, your country is burning – dangerous climate change is here with you now,” Mann, best known for his debunked “hockey stick” graph showing unprecedented 20th-century global warming after centuries of supposed level temperatures, says he is witnessing the devastating effects of climate change “first hand.”
Mann writes that he took his family “to see the Great Barrier Reef – one of the great wonders of this planet – while we still can.”
“Subject to the twin assaults of warming-caused bleaching and ocean acidification, it will be gone in a matter of decades in the absence of a dramatic reduction in global carbon emissions,” Mann prophesies.
The Blue Mountains, as well, “another of Australia’s natural wonders,” Mann laments, “is now threatened by climate change.”
“I witnessed this firsthand,” he states.
Mann does not explain how it was possible for him to witness climate change “first hand,” which would be difficult to do, since by definition climate change — unlike weather — takes place over long periods of time.
Instead of “vast expanses of rainforest framed by distant blue-tinged mountain ranges,” Mann looked out into “smoke-filled valleys, with only the faintest ghosts of distant ridges and peaks in the background.”
“The locals, whom I found to be friendly and outgoing, would volunteer that they have never seen anything like this before. Some even uttered the words ‘climate change’ without any prompting,” Mann declares, as apparent proof that he was witnessing climate change “first hand.”
Mann goes on to make proclamations that only a publication as ideologically compromised as the Guardian would think to publish.
“The brown skies I observed in the Blue Mountains this week are a product of human-caused climate change,” Mann states.
“The warming of our planet – and the changes in climate associated with it – are due to the fossil fuels we’re burning: oil, whether at midnight or any other hour of the day, natural gas, and the biggest culprit of all, coal,” he declares.
“When we mine for coal, like the controversial planned Adani coalmine, which would more than double Australia’s coal-based carbon emissions, we are literally mining away at our blue skies,” Mann says. (In his defense, he is using “literally” here to mean “figuratively” or “not literally.”)
Australians “need only wake up in the morning, turn on the television, read the newspaper or look out the window to see what is increasingly obvious to many – for Australia, dangerous climate change is already here,” Mann pronounces.
“Australia is experiencing a climate emergency. It is literally burning,” he says, before suggesting that it is time to vote in woke leaders who embrace the dogmas of the climate crisis.
“Australians must vote out fossil-fuelled politicians who have chosen to be part of the problem and vote in climate champions who are willing to solve it,” he states.
Mann may have missed the 2018 World Air Quality Report, published by IQAIR, which ranks the world’s nations by the cleanliness of their air, according to estimated average PM2.5 concentration (μg/m³).
Had he read the report, he would have found a curious fact: by and large, the cleanest air is found in first-world nations that have benefited from the cheap, available energy that he deplores. The countries with the most polluted air are mostly those that still have to benefit from this energy.
Though it is not the only factor (Kuwait, for example, is a notable exception), there is a remarkable correlation between air cleanliness and economic development, as well as between development and the availability of cheap energy.

DiCaprio was in Alberta filming The Revenant when a Chinook came in. Then he started banging on about witnessing “climate change first hand.” Yes Leo, we survived one of the many Chinooks that we receive each winter, you bloody genius. Mickey Mann and his idiot accomplices are completely fraudulent, and the tide is finally turning against their brazen lies. 🙂
I wonder if Mann and the BC jerk Weaver ever paid Dr. Ball the hundreds of thousands the BC Supreme Court to him for their debunked fake Climate Change lawsuit where Dr. Ball proved the Mann hockey stick was completely fake and manipulated?
Notice the complicit media tried to let that story die, just like Jeffery Epstein, who didn’t kill himself? Mickey Mann is a complete joke, albeit a very expensive joke.
180 years ago, people beat down fires with ” green boughs”. Now they post videos on u tube.
We know how to stop wildfires.
Where is the will?
Australia has always burned. Most of our native trees are highly combustible. Even if there were no people in the country, lightning strikes would start fires and in periodical drought conditions, such as El Ninos, with heavy undergrowth on the forest floor, nothing in its path will survive. Australian aboriginals knew how to carry out regular cool burns. These cool burns allowed the wildlife to move away from the fires and prevented the devastation we are seeing today. Unfortunately, the Green Movement in Australian politics, as a minority voice, has been able to play wedge politics and has influenced policy decisions. Whole areas of forests are being locked up to save the planet, but these policies are misguided in the extreme. Where we used to have control burns along the edges of roads, now undergrowth and fallen timber is encouraged to be left for the “little critters”. Sad that these little critters and so much flora and fauna are being decimated due to these misguided policies. Decisions in the bush are being driven by city people whose experience is in law, qualified as Bachelors of Arts, or simply party hacks who have very little apparent scientific knowledge or background. No, these fires are not due to Climate Change in the sense that is proclaimed in current dogma. There are numerous precedents going back to the early 1800s, when no one had a motor car, there were no jetliners and great container ships. There was barely more than a billion people on the planet. No, these fires are about mismanagement of the unique Australian environment. It is a great pity that the world now seems to think that great wisdom resides in a 16 year old child, but because people in their eighth decade have not embraced the digital age in large numbers, their experience is overlooked and of no value. The following are just two articles which talk of bushfires in Geelong in Victoria, and Perth in Western Australia. They were occurring around 1840. Anyone can search Australian Newspapers at Trove Newspapers, a website of the Australian National Library. Much can be found there about weather events, glaciers, icebergs, heatwaves in India or Alaska, and so on. All at a time when our production of CO2 was minimal. Two news articles follow:
The first article was written in the year that the Geelong Advertiser commenced, and just four years after the first white settlers established themselves in Geelong.
Geelong Advertiser (Vic. 1840 – 1845), Saturday 19 December 1840, page 2
LOCAL INTELLIGENCE. The Blacks and the Bush Fires — For the last fortnight, the country around the township has been in a state of almost continual conflagration and the fires have at last advanced into the very centre of the township, between the northern and southern portions. These fires however are very different from those in the brush and scrub of New South Wales, being much less dangerous to buildings and fences. In the open pasture land of this district, the fire marches along the grass at the rate of two or three miles a day, in a column of perhaps several miles front, and only a few inches deep, devouring all the feed in its course, but in general sparing the green shrubs and trees. It has been only through great exertion that some settlers have been enabled to preserve a few acres of grass on their stations. In some cases the fire can be beaten out with green boughs. Of course the blacks are the incendiaries. This is another argument added to the thousand and one already adduced in favor of the separation of the blacks from the whites. These “Swings” have it in their power to burn up the whole country, whenever such may be their will and pleasure. Now, we cannot see any great differences between burning a man’s house about his ears, and burning all the grass of his station for although the injury will be repaired by time, still the immediate loss and inconvenience are very great.

Swan River Extracts. The bush-fires around the town of Perth, within the last week, have threatened some danger. Lieut. Armstrong promptly hastened with a detachment of the military to render every assistance in extinguishing the flames, and succeeded in getting the fire under during the day. At night, however, it broke out again, when their efforts were renewed, and, we must say with a degree of alacrity and willingness which entitle them to our consideration. Lieut. King attended on the second occasion. We observed but few civilians so active as we could have wished; we hope this arose from a persuasion that there was little danger, and not from a want of dis position to assist. It has been suggested, indeed we believe it was remarked by us same period last year, during the prevalence of the bush fires, which it is almost impossible to guard against, that it would be advisable to clear a road all-round the town.
Mann is just another attention mongering fool looking for a soap box and crowd of fools to listen to his mindless banter
