European Union carbon emissions increased in 2017 as French President Emmanuel Macron continues dinging the Trump administration for leaving the Paris climate agreement.
Carbon emissions in the EU increased 1.8 percent since 2016, EU’s statistics office Eurostat said Friday.
There was also a double-digit increase in Malta and Estonia, while Germany’s emission levels remain unchanged.
EU leaders have been championing the non-binding deal since President Donald Trump said he would leave the pact in 2017.
The earliest the U.S. can begin officially withdraw is Nov. 4, 2019, under the terms of the accord, which seeks to keep increases in the planet’s average temperature to well below 2 degrees Celsius.
Macron created a website called Make Our Planet Great Again shortly after Trump announced his decision to decouple from the pact.
The website advertises positions for senior researchers, junior researchers and Ph.D. students to do work on global warming and the “energy transition” from fossil fuels.
Macron’s website is meant to poke fun at Trump’s campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again.”
The French president wants to nab American climate scientists who disagree with Trump’s budget proposal, which cuts global warming programs.

All the bozos kiss Trump’s ring, grudgingly. The Swamp is worldwide. Merkel, Macron, et al ,they will work against Trump come election time.
Macron just another pathetic little pipsqueak of a a person dragging France into the pit with him
The next time France throws up their white flags who they going to call ? Not sure who is dumber Macron or Trudeau but I wonder if
Macron thinks budgets balance themselves too . Trudeau promised $10 billion deficits that have grown to over $18 billion and there is no real end in sight till he takes his big walk in the snow leaving a complete train wreck for someone else to clean up . Does Macron get meals driven to his house too ? I doubt Macron ‘s silver spoon is quite as shiny.
Since it wasn’t a treaty which was ratified by the US Senate the United States were never part of the Paris Accord since Obama can only negotiate a treaty, not ratify it and make it enforceable.
Steve, I agree and have been making the same statement on this web site for a long time. The only thing I can guess is that President Trump has a good reason, unknown to us, to treat the Paris Treaty as if there is some sort of obligation to the US.
