No matter how often we pile on the fraud that is Germany’s energiewende (for “energy transition”), it never gets old pointing out that it should really be called energiefehler—”energy failure.” Today the New York Times acknowledges it as such:
Germany’s Shift to Green Power Stalls, Despite Huge Investments
A de facto class system has emerged, saddling a group of have-nots with higher electricity bills that help subsidize the installation of solar panels and wind turbines elsewhere.
Germany has spent an estimated 189 billion euros, or about $222 billion, since 2000 on renewable energy subsidies. But emissions have been stuck at roughly 2009 levels, and rose last year, as coal-fired plants fill a void left by Germany’s decision to abandon nuclear power. That has raised questions — and anger — over a program meant to make the country’s power sector greener.
This lack of progress is an “illustration of the partial failure of the energy transition,” said Artur Lenkowski, an energy analyst at IHS Markit, a research firm. “The whole point of the energy transition was to lower greenhouse gas emissions.”
Renewable energy subsidies are financed through electric bills, meaning that Energiewende is a big part of the reason prices for consumers have doubled since 2000.
If you look at states here that have aggressive renewable energy mandates, you find much the same thing. California actually has less carbon-free electricity generation capacity than it did in 1990. Stay tuned for more on this topic here in the coming days. . .

Environmentalists pushed governments to label CO2 as a pollutant. Now those same willing partners are failing to meet their CO2 targets.
Did they deliberately over promise, so that the campaign lives on?
Merkel needs to find partners to form a coalition government. The Green Party is negotiating with her. More wind farms for Deutschland!
Germany has a clear cut failure yet California and New York are determined to follow in their foot steps. I have always found it amazing how liberals continue to copy the failure of others and this isn’t limited to climate change.
I think I finally understand. When liberals make these poor decisions they ignore a number of facts indicating they are making a mistake. The fact that the same thing has failed for someone else is just another fact to ignore.
This illustrates the old liberal approach: if something doesn’t work, spend more money, create more bureaucracy and regulation, then spend more money… Lather, rinse, repeat.
Good point. German engineering, money is no object, just do it. The goal is impossible . Every watt of renewable needs a watt of backup, and the backup is really the work horse.
Modern electrical grids evolved. Merkel’s dream is Frankenstein’s monster instead of a hybrid.
German engineers are the best in the world. Ironic that even they cannot make renewables work without heavy subsides and/or destroying their industrial might. Merkel and her visible hatred towards Trump is a indication that she’s in total denial of her failure as a elected leader of Germany up to until Trump got elected. Now that she got relected means she’s going to have to keep her head down and lie all the time.
Failure is what they deserve for being so stupid.
Losing their country is what they deserve for
permitting imitation ” refugees ” into their
gun control country.
They will pay a heavy price for being so stupid.
West Germany still has the East German flu.
This is valid for the whole of Europe. That continent is lost.
Green Power is a total farce and a waste they need the money for more important things then on wind farms and solar power to appease the eco-wackos and Global Warming chicken littles
