Republican Sen. John Barrasso of Wyoming told Fox News anchor John Roberts Wednesday that getting to an all-electric automobile fleet “cannot be done.”
“This is part of the great fantasy of the Democrats,” Barrasso said on “America Reports.” [bold, links added]
“Last week talking about high energy prices, Pete Buttigieg, Secretary of Transportation, what did he say? What did the secretary of energy say? They said buy an electric car. People in Wyoming cannot afford that, they are $55,000 each,” he added.
The Biden administration admitted that the prices for gasoline and other energy sources will remain high through 2023.
“This is the high gas prices that so many Democrats have wanted for years to force people into electric cars,” Barrasso said.
Americans in 28 states face potential blackouts due to an inability of the power grid to shortfalls in electric generating capacity, the North American Electric Reliability Corporation reported last month.
Mandates for renewable energy have been difficult to meet as solar and wind power have not been able to replace fossil fuels and nuclear plants, according to electric grid operators.
“Instead of buying an electric car, if you are in California with the coming blackouts, buy an electric generator, you are going to need it,” Barrasso said, describing the Biden administration as “tone-deaf” and “out of touch.”

Senator Barrasso is right. It is foolish to think the power grid can be converted to renewable generation only and that system will then support millions of battery electric vehicles that need charging every day in addition to existing demands for more electricity.
Has anyone got some tulips for sale?
If the situation wasn’t so serious it would be funny. How can educated, mature, sensible [supposed to be] adults think that what we are currently doing will work? The evidence that it’s failing is evident in other countries but these so-called clever people don’t seem to realise that.
The only conclusion i can come to is the democrat government led by Joe Biden wants to destroy our way of life and as a consequence, our country.
I live in Wyoming. Last Friday, for example, I traveled 480 miles in a 13 hour period out here doing my job. Folks on the “coasts” in big cities have NO IDEA of the vastness of the west and the requirements needed for dependable transportation. We are many years away from the battery technology needed. One size does NOT fit all. Let the market, car makers & consumers determine what the best allocation of resources is going forward. Think very carefully at the voting booth this November unless you want this nonsense to get any worse…
I live in Colorado and have traveled in Wyoming many times, driving across I-80 to consulting work in Salt Lake City. I can’t imagine how many times I’d have to stop to recharge my batteries, assuming there are even any charging stations in those few towns along the interstate. Have Mayor Pete come out and drive an EV in Wyo!
The Democrats Green Dreams comes from their liberal stupidity and them Drinking way too much
Buying a generator is good advice and going to be increasingly necessary. What concerns me is some people will do so without knowing what they are doing. As with any internal combustion engine, it needs to be run in a well ventilated area. For the electrical hook up, if you don’t have the knowledge yourself, get help from someone who does. This is an area with a lot of potential for property damage and person injury.
