The fields of Glastonbury look a long way away from lush and green after thousands of revelers left the site looking worse for wear.
Rubbish was scattered around the ‘plastic-free’ event today including plenty of plastic bottles, while aerial photos showed how tents had left the grass yellow and flat.
Around 200,000 revelers have been at the site over the past five days and work is underway to remove the mountains of debris they did not take home with them, including chairs and camping equipment.
It comes despite climate change and the environment being the theme of the festival and repeated pleas from organizers for music-lovers to ‘love the farm and leave no trace’.
Sir David Attenborough also made a surprise appearance to praise the organizers for their ban on selling single-use plastic bottles but his words appear to have fallen on deaf ears judging by the amount scattered on the ground.
The official Glastonbury Twitter account last night also urged music lovers to ‘leave this beautiful countryside in the state that it deserves’ ahead of a six-week clear-up operation.
More than 1,300 volunteers used bin bags made from recycled plastic – which will later be recycled again – to hand sort rubbish left on the ground and in each of the 15,000 bins.
Meanwhile, Sir David, 93, appeared on the Pyramid Stage yesterday to throw his weight behind the anti-plastic campaign and thank the festival for ditching it, with his words appearing to fall on deaf ears.
Sir David’s rallying cry came as festival-goers slammed the Somerset farm site last night as ‘disgusting’ and shamed their fellow attendees for chucking rubbish to the ground – sometimes just meters away from a bin.
On Facebook, Jackie Lambert wrote: ‘I’m disgusted at the way people think it’s ok to throw their rubbish, the place is disgusting.’
Kylie Maisey said that ‘people are definitely not listening to leave no trace’ and Joe Gilmour wrote that ‘no-one’s listening to the spirit of Glastonbury’.

Just like at Standing Rock the Ec0-Freaks/Hypotcrites gathered to protest a oil pipeline and leave the place a mess
It’s the same every year at this festival. Someone also pointed out the irony of several thousand vegans rushing to enjoy themselves on a working dairy farm.
The typical bunch of Eco-Freaks the Do as i say not as i do bunch of Tree Hugging Eco-Wackos Back to Nature freaks just like after the Peoples Climate March back in Sept 2014 or after each Earth Day in Central Park the Hypocricy of these Greens stands out like Polar Bear in the Amazon Jungle
This is so typical of the lefties–leaving a place a helluva lot worse than it was when they arrived. We’ve seen that throughout the US, especially in DC. Not the same when conservatives hold a rally.
Brilliant!
